Report: At the lake for our annual week-long vacation. It was a weird week to say the least. We normally pull alot of fish off main lake points, but got very few there this trip. Also noticed that all the hits came very close to shore. Nearly every fish we caught was puking up crawdads, so of course, we switched to crawdad imitations, but things were still very slow. We also noticed that because of the rapid drawdown, the crawdads along shore by our houseboat were very active all the time...we could look off the front of the boat and see them moving any time of the day. We finally devised a tactic where we would find a rocky stretch of shoreline (not necessarily near a point), and pull the boat in parallel to the shore, hold in about 6-8 feet of water, then cast parallel to the bank. We started catching more fish, mostly on plastics & shad imitations. Never caught a fish worth bragging about (lots of dinks), but did get maybe a dozen or so in the 2-3 lb. range.
City: FernleyTips: Work shallow along rocky, gently sloping shorelines with plastics and shad imitations (I did pretty good twitching a fluke on a darter head, my buddy caught most of his on a Mystic Shad-R). Best times seemed to be right before dark, or early morning before the sun hit the water.

Report: Water sucks due to an amazing amount of boat traffic, and large drawdown. Caught some on plastics, but very few on reaction baits. Might as well fish an entire arm to get 10lbs... but you may only get 7lbs. Fishing is terrible at this point.
City: ReddingTips: Go catch some frog fish on a lake with some cover.

Report: The Devil Mountain Bassmasters made the 4 hour trip to Shasta Lake for a small club tournament. While some struggled to fine keepers, the bite was off the hook for me. I wasn't doing anything special, swam a grub on a darthead, dropshotted morningdawn and prism shad worms, green worms worked, but not as well as the girlie colors. Green pumkin hula grubs on a 1/4oz darthead in the steep canyons. Brown jig with a smoke/purple flake grub trailer. While everyone was taking steep & deep, I found schools of fish in the 20' range.
City: Walnut CreekTips: By 11:00 AM it is really hot out there. Be prepared for the heat, drink lots of water and remember to eat. Bring a wash cloth to dip into the lake while fishing and before you run. This will cool you down and keep you fresh.

Report: Fishing was very difficult. We were up the Pit arm past the NO SKI buoy. Where is the Sheriff boats? There were people skiing, wakeboarding and jet skiing inside the NO SKI bouy. Loud vulger music with every profanity you could hear clearly. What a wonderfull family outing. Many of these abusers came dangeously close to us while we were fishing. Where is the Forest Sevice enforcement? Sheriff? Someone is going to get KILLED. What do we pay our fees for? Fishing was not so good.

Report: I mostly fished the lower Squaw arm during a 5-day trip. Rocky points produced several 2-3 lb spotties and smallies. I caught a couple off Panther Martin Vivif minnow lures, but most were caught off crickets. Fishing success was intermittent, however, and I strongly suggest having a fish and depth finder to get into the good spots. We also went to the Blue Canyon inlet of the Pit Arm, which was loaded with immature bass, so the fishing wasn't good there.
What happened to the catfish in the lake? I didn't catch a single one during this trip. I saw large fish at depths of 60-80 feet on the finder, but couldn't latch onto a single one.

Report: After reading the earlier reports on the lunker punker Jr. swimbait. I purchased one before my trip to Shasta. Launched at first light and the first ten casts I landed 3 fish. One was a 4.8lb spot my biggest so far. I had numerous fish along with big blowups until the sun came up. Awesome bait.

Report: Spent 6-3 thru 6-10 houseboating out of Sugarloaf with family and good friends. Spent the 1st 3 days in O'Brien. Spots and smallies were co-operative, 2nd cast at train trussel caisson produced a nice 2.5 lb smallie. Moved Wednesday morning to Big Backbone. Fished main lake points and drops with good success. Mostly spot in the 1.5 to 3 lb range with an occassional smallie. All in all a great 1st time experience on the lake.
City: CoronaTips: Used 2-1/2" Yum craws in green and craw color. 4-1/2" and 6" Robo worms: Morning Dawn, Foulkstad Special, Aaron's Magic, and Bold Bluegill all were producing. Zarra Spooks early on the points. Most fish in 20-30 feet of water with an occasional shallow fish.

Report: 4 day houseboat trip during first week of June. Tossed "beetle spinners" in green which did very well on spots. Caught about a dozen up at the end of Little Squaw Creek inlet right next to dam. Tossed Repella off deep water rocks just off ski island on Silverthorn side and landed of all things, pan fish about the same size as the lure. Got a fun large mouth (about 3 1/2 pounds) throwing this same lure in a cover up the Pit arm.
Tips: fish rocky shelves and cover morning and evening. Small spinners with green plastics worked well on spotties but just about anything you throw at them works.

Report: Spent the last week vacationing at Shasta. I launched out of Bridge Bay. I started out throwing the Lunker Punker swimbait. My quality fish seemed to come off the bait in the mornings. I stayed shallow most of the week. I must have released about 200 fish over the week. I look forward to next year on beautiful Shasta.
City: BrentwoodTips: If you want quality fish throw the bigger surface swimbaits.
