Report: by The Pond King ยป Mon Oct 24, 2016 12:51 pm
I haven't posted in a while because I really haven't been fishing much. My focus has been on other parts of my life. I've only been dabbling with some local large mouth bass fishing here and there.
Anyways, my friend invited me out to go fishing with him and another buddy on his boat this past Saturday. I couldn't pass up on a boat fishing trip, so I got everything geared up and ready to go.
We launched around 7 in the morning, and the first spot we stopped by was a great choice because we started getting hit right off the bat. Lucky Craft Sammy's were the hot bait of the day and the top water bite was on like Donkey Kong! It was only within the first hour or so where we had the flurry of action, and then the bite died. We're so busy catching fishing, I couldn't take pictures during the moment. The only thing I was thinking was to get back out on the water asap. We've caught probably around 10 each and missed many more. There's nothing like a top water bite. The stripers were so aggressive. If it missed the Sammy, it kept jumping at it till it got hooked. Most were 17-21 inchers. They weren't big, but they were very fun to catch on bass rods.
I highly recommend fishing at San Luis Reservoir right now. Catch the early morning bite. That is the key!

Report: If your headed to San Luis make sure you don't have any moisture anywhere on the boat, inside the prop'on the trailer, under the batteries etc or the rangers will fail you and not let you in. They almost failed me because of condensation under the battery.Only caught 2 stripers to 26in on jerkbaits in Clown or Perch
Tips: Don't do what I did I only caught 2 15 years ago we would have caught 40.Talked to one guy who said they caught 8 on cotton cordell. He caught 1 from the dock while we were talking to him

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Well dont post like I used to but got there about 6:30 and started out by the South Island and worked towards 33 with a Jerkbait and Rat-L-Trap and nothing at all. Then fished around 33 and there was no moveing water so I ran back and fished the area around the ramp.Ended up catching six fish two on a Jerkbait and the rest on a Trap. Then a breeze came up and within 15 minutes I was of the water with about 30
mph winds.I was on the Forebay.
City: SalinasTips: I think the bite is just starting and it should get better for reaction now because it was still warm over there for November.

Water Temp: 70
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Wondering what the water levels are like, my grandmother just came up the pass and said the waters way down. She said it was damn near drained to the bottom. Is this true? Can somebody give me a ballpark as to how many stories (10 ft) it's down? A few months ago it looked about full maybe 3 stories low. Can somebody inform me? Been thinking about going out there, but the more concentrated the water, the more concentrated the baitfish = less bites.
City: HaywardTips: Thank you for any info
