Report: I have been fishing this lake for the last five years of my life and after reading a few of the recent reports feel obligated to set everyone straight. The fishing at this lake is on par with fishing in a sewage processing plant. If you have the energy to walk the 15 miles it takes to get to where you might have a chance to catch a fish, I would consider you lucky if you managed to get a strike. The fish rarely get over a pound and fight like squaws. If you are one of those people who like to eat bass, I would like to take this opportunity to warm you about the mercury levels in the fish. There is a sign posted on the dam warning anglers to eat no more than one fish per month to reduce chances of intoxication. WARNING: my most recent trip to Soulajule almost took my life. It seems there is a huge rattlesnake population surrounding the lake. I was bitten in the shoe and encountered numerous other snakes along the trail. Overall, this lake has very few fish, requires miles of hiking, has a mercury proplem and a massive rattlesnake population.

Report: i heard about this lake from this website and it sounded pretty good. So i grabbed a map and figured out where it was and drove out to it. I started walking around 9 am didn't get back to my car until it was almost dark. It was the most walking to the little amount of fish i have ever done. I must have walked 10 miles around the rocky steep bank and ended up getting poison oak and about 10 ticks. The total for the day was 1 stupid little 1 pound bass. I would have to say it is worst fishing i have ever done. I don't suggest wasting your time, you are better off sitting in a corner twiddleing your thumbs.

Report: Showed up to work at the satellite station to find my work time had been changed to start at 11 am due to striking techs. With about 4 hours to kill, I started walking the banks with a brush hog and a blade. Caught a couple dinks on the blade right off on grass edges in shallow water, and got a few more on the brush hog a little deeper, including one about 4 pounds off a channel break headed toward the grass flats in the back. Saw something interesting. There was balls of bass fry EVERYWHERE back there. I know this lake stays fairly cool due to being so close to the coast, but I would have thought fry balls would have been long gone by now. I think I'll go back out after work to chuck some stinkos on the fry balls and see what happens. This was also the clearest I've ever seen this water with about 4 feet of visibility on the western side.
    City: Middletown

Tips: Watch your footing. The water is already pretty low, and there are loose rocks and dirt all the way around, and it is easy to be put on your butt if not careful. The bright side to the low water is that you can easily steer clear of the poison oak that abounds around this lake by staying well below it.

Report: Caught two fish on a bluegill pattern crankbait. The first was a 14" dink, but the second one was 2.8 lbs, according to my scale.
Both were hooked on a jerk retrieve where I'd let the 'bait sit while I reeled in the slack slowly. Both hit when the lure was motionless.

    Water Temp: no idea

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I fished Soulajule today from 12:00 to 3:00. The wind was howling out there, which made it interesting with my baitcaster. MANY backlashes to deal with and no accuracy at all when casting. I hiked around to the left side of the dam (as you approach the lake) and fished the coves where the wind wasn't nearly as bad. I threw spinnerbaits at first, but didn't get anything at all. I then switched to a shallow running Rapala fat rap (shad pattern) and hooked three in the same cove. All were small (10-14" max.), but they fought well. There were a ton of lizards in the brush alongside the shoreline. I was tempted to throw one of my soft plastic lizards on, but knew I wouldn't be able to cast it weightless with all the wind and there was too much algae to rig it carolina or with a bullet-nose. There was only one other person on the water and he was on the other side of the lake. No idea how he did.
    City: Petaluma

    Tips: Hit the sheltered coves.

Report: For those expecting a juicy report...sorry...But or those interested in the state o the lake's shoreline, you should know...IT SUCKS!...I have noticed, on recent trips to the lake( I irst ished the lake 12 years ago and only started ishing it again very recently), just how much garbage is let behind on the shoreline by "Fishermen". Bottles, cups, orks, worm containers, beer cans, cigarette cartons, anything and everything!...I was there doing a little ishing today and spent a little time picking up some o it. It quickly became overwhelming...The more I picked up, the more I ound. I didn't even have to look or it. I could've picked up more i I; irst, had more bags; second, more help; third, MORE TIME!!!...And here's something that I didn't even notice until today...There's a @#%!! garbage bin right by the lake! What the hell is wrong with people!?(You know who you are) And I know it's only a small percent o lazy, selish bastards ruining the beauty o the lake and the outdoors or the rest o us, but those ew seem to make a pretty big mess. I'm sure most o you out there who might read this are responsible and respectul outdoorsmen, so you are probably as angered and disappointed as I am when you see this stu going on. It's rustrating that no matter what we say or do, nothing gets through to people like that...They-just-don't-care!!!...And we have to keep picking up, cleaning up and wiping the butts o these 3 year-olds...That's just how I want to spend my ishing trips...At what point, in these people's lives, did they learn and think that it was okay to drop and leave their crap where ever they eel like? I'd ask the question, "Would they do this in their mother's house?", but the answer(or reality) would probably be, "Yes."...Those "Fishermen" need to stop embarrassing themselves and everyone else, and learn to be respectul. With that, I'd just like to say; Go ishing, enjoy the outdoors, pick up a little i you can, and i not, at least, don't leave anything behind, and I'll do the same. Maybe our caring and respect will rub o on others.

Report: Spring is darn sure trying. Did a couple hours at Soulajule Reservior. Score: 8 bass, none over 2lbs, none under 8", and six ticks! :-) Couple nice warm days sure livens things up at this time o year. Used a small 1" chartruse/white clouser and a 2" orange and black woolybugger. Clear intermediate line. Short, steep, small coves were OK. Fish took at about 2'-4' deep. ....lee s. ....lee s.

Tips: Warmest water is real near the bank. Work'em slow. Most takes on the drop.

Report: Took o rom work at the satellite station around 2:30 and walked in to the back side o the lake to see i anyone was biting. Water looked really good, and there is grass in places it has not been beore. That is good news or this lake. Picked up a 3 and a dink on a blade on the way to the back. Not a bad start. As soon as I got to the end o the lake, I got a pair o twin 4's o o a ence line on a jig. Got to the very back corner where the creek comes in, and caught ish just about every other cast on the blade. Size anywhere rom incerdibly dinky to about 3 lbs. Mostly dinks though. Got tired o throwing the blade(literally) ater probably 20 ish, and started in with the brush hog. Kept catching, but the brush hog was producing less bites, although they were generally bigger with a ew in the 2 lb range. Probably had in the neighborhood o 30-35 ish total, but most were dinky. I let the ish biting at about dark since the lions and coyotes own this place at night.I wish I had a kid to take with me and get him/her hooked on bass. That was the kind o aternoon to do it.
    City: middletown

Tips: I you can ind a concentration o ish on this lake, you can catch them until your arm alls o. Just about any bait will do it. Don't use expensive plastics, because those little ish will break the bank with the way they tear them up. Fish any cover you can ind and you should be severely rewarded, because this lake has very little in the way o good solid cover. Fish this aternoon were on submerged ence posts, and creek channels.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Over the last couple weeks... ish completely scattered. Some in 30 eet straight out, a couple up against the shore but really nothing past the dam on the let side. The right side is almost impassable with the water up as high as it is. Some ish caught (1 to 1.5 per hour) on grn/red baby brush hog, 4in green senko, small yellow spinner bait. Got in a little trouble parking by the satellite dishes. Anyone know i there's any public way to the back o the reservoir?
    City: novato

Tips: Didn't catch more than one ish in any spot. Keep moving and keep an eye on your line, the bite has been pretty subtle.

Once the worm hit the warter it only took 3 or so sec till your line started to move. All ish were 1-2 bls with three going over 4bls or so. ish were close to the shore and next to cover. Had had a great day and will be going over the weekend.

    Water Temp: cold

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went out there or a little while and threw the carolina rig with baby brushhog and caught three clones. All about two pounds each. All in the same area about 10 eet o water. Fished the cove in ront o the satellite dish. Fish were on the steeper banks beore you get to the lats. Where they should be. All ish just came up rom deep water I think because they were on the thin side and had all their little teeth still which means they have not gotten into the crawdads yet. Checked some other spots that I've caught them and no go. Thanks Travis.
    City: Petaluma

Tips: Carolina rig and you can cover a lot o water ast until you igure out where there at. Baby brushhogs and lizards. Green pumpkin with tail dipped in chartreuse dye. You get a cloudy, rainy day, chuck that jig out there also.

Report: Went out this aternoon and threw a rattletrap or awhile and nothing happening. Switched over to the jig(1/2oz Weapon-blk,blu,purple with a brown piece o senior Super Pork)and caught three good ish. The irst ish(6lbs) was caught way in the back o a point with rock in about ten eet o water. I cast out deep and slowly worked it back up the hill. Then on my way back I caught two more at the dam. Both ish about three pounds each according to scale. All ish had ull bellys and big. I couldn't believe the big one only weighed 6lbs because he was huge. I'll take it because it was looking really bad until I switched to the jig.
    City: Petaluma

Tips: The ish were not in chase mode today, so you gotta slow it down big time. Cannot beat a jig this time o year. Fish it slow and make sure you're banging into rock. No rock, no ish. All ish came o points. All you need out there is a jig now. The number o ish might be down, but the size is deinitely gonna increase. Big brushhog might work also. I you want numbers ish the dropshot setup. Think sloooooowwwwwwwwww and you will catch ish.

    Water Temp: Unknown

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: My irst time ishing Soolahooly, and my irst time reporting on this thing! So, hello all you readers (Not sure i there are many readers or Soulajule, but hello anyways). Started ishing at around 6pm...not much time beore sundown, so I didn't hike too ar...just to the barbwire ence around the bend, past the lonely lakeside tree. No bites whatsoever at all or ortyive minutes. Threw a Terminator Spinnerbait (Colorado & Willowlea combo, white and chartruese skirt), then a Texas rigged 7" Pumpkinseed Powerworm, then a split shot 4" Pumpkinseed Powerworm (in case there were smaller ish around, then a black-n-blue Strike King jig rigged with a Powercraw bakc by the tree where it's kind o a cli and really rocky. No luck, so I decided to try by the dam, and caught a 12 incher with the Terminator, but that was it...tried the worms and the jigs again to no avail. Then I went surace with a black and silver Rebel Pop-R. On my third cast, wham! A our pound suprise! Yahoooo! Good long ight on a long cast with light tackle (medium light spinning with 6 pound line so I can cast the Pop-R ar!). A ew casts later, another puny one about twice the size o the lure, and then another ew casts and, slam, a two pounder, also put up a good ight. All this happened within iteen minutes, 6:45 to 7:00pm. Missed two other boils during that time as well. Then, no bites ater 7pm...hmmm. I called it the night at around 7:30 because I didn't want to break the sundset closure rule. So this is a pretty cool lake i you don't mind the unwelcoming gate which conused me at irst...drove by it because i igured it to be provate property (just push the button). Also, the cattle on the dirt road that don't move away too quick even or a our wheel truck, and the short hike to the water's edge rom the "parking lot"...the prize? It's very secluded, peaceul, and you might have the whole lake to yoursel, like me this evening. No boaters allowed, but I don't have one anyways...great or shorebound anglers cause there won't be any boaters taking your water!
    City: Rohnert Park

Tips: Well, the late summer season means the surace lures are still great or evening in the shallows, like today...I'm sure the same goes or the morning. I'm sure that'll continue until the water temp lowers in the all. I heard jigs work well here, but there is so much algae growth on the bottom now, that you'll end up draggin' in a chunk o green.
