AZGFD reminds boaters to "clean, drain and dry" following five impoundments during past month PHOENIX — Following the recent interception and impoundment of multiple quagga mussel-fouled watercraft that had been in Lake Powell or Lake Havasu for extended periods, the Arizona Game and Fish Department reminds boaters to "clean, drain and dry" – and especially decontaminate — their watercraft and equipment before exiting waters designated as having aquatic invasive species.

Relict Leopard Frogs Not in Need of Federal Protection
USFWS determines populations are stable or increasing thanks to proactive conservation efforts PHOENIX — A frog species in Arizona and southern Nevada does not need federal protection under the Endangered Species Act, thanks to the multi-partner conservation efforts of the Arizona Game and Fish Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and other federal and state agencies that make up the Relict Leopard Frog Conservation Team. The Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that relict leopard frog populations are stable or increasing.

Fishing Report: Top-5 spots for this week
There is a new moon Aug. 2, making this a superb time to fish at night using submersible lights. Top pick is Lake Pleasant for stripers using anchovies. Fish at night using little or no weight. Cut your bait into thirds, but cut your chum into quarters. Chum liberally. Add corn for a little extra fish excitement (it will also attract sunfish, carp and catfish). The more fish activity you can generate, the better -- it's like a dinner "gong" going off under water that attracts predatory fish.
