Your opinion of the BASS HUNTER boat

Post by Buzzbait »

You know the ones. Little tiny semi pontoon composite boat with built in seats.

Any opinions of them? There is a spot I cannot get a large boat into (LOL, large being 12 ft), so I'm considering getting one (6.6ft and 40 lbs...easy to carry). I got a float tube, but I'm really not into being in the water while I'm fishing.

How is the stability on these? Anyone ever take them on larger lakes?

I had a 10.2 Basstender, put a 6 hp 4 stroke Merc on it, and found at full throttle it would just point the nose way up in the air and handle like a hammer in a box full of rocks. Not especially stable at rest, either.

You do have a bit more room than on a inflatable fishing pontoon, but I did not find mine very satisfactory. I only took it out once, then sold it. There are a few different models and manufacturers, some that take up to a 15 horse motor.

If you like this style of boat, I'd try to ride in one before writing the check. It's not that hard to find them for sale; perhaps you can get someone to let you demo it.

I have an older 12 foot aluminum boat that will fit in the back of my truck, and I like it pretty well for a small boat - intended for lakes where it's not convenient to take the big boat. I may get a trailer, 15 horse motor for it, and small bow mount trolling motor to make it a bit more efficient. These are also pretty easy to find used. Mine is a riveted 1970 model, but does not leak. I've ridden it through some big wakes on the Delta, and it was okay.
