Do you like recessed trolling motor mount?

Post by Brian Manthe »

I'm thinking about installing the recessed foot control mount on my 2000 20'6" champion. I'm trying to figure out the good and the bad before I go and cut a hole in my deck. My question is does the foot control (when mounted) sit flush with the deck or does it sit lower, so when pushing down your foot has to reach? Does this system allow for good stability when in rough water? Any other pro's or con's would be helpful.

Thanks,

Don't know how I fished without it before, oh yes, back pain........now I remember!

WAY more balance and I never have back pain!

My boat has it, straignt from the factory. I did win a comfort troll a few years back at a 100% BASS event. They seem built well. I know other who have had that one and liked it. They have a website to check them out.

Good luck, you won't be sorry!

When I got the boat I have now from 911bass, John had put 1 in this skeeter and I have to say I didn't like it for the first few weeks the foot control does sit flush with the deck. I now Love it :) it just took alittle gettting used to after having the old way for so long.

I will say that the only time I really didn't like it was when I had to go backwards and the foot control was all the way down in the back side, But the plus part is my back does not hurt as bad after along day of fishing and in bad water I can stand there without a butt seat and still run it without alot of problems

I have a Comfort Troll on mine Best thing I ever did. I wouldn't have a boat without it now. Just be sure you check to make sure the hole is far enough forward so as to no get into the front storage compartment. It's pretty close on the Ranger 520's.

Definitely worth the hole!! I installed a Flat Foot on my Skeeter and was able to fish for 3 full days straight with almost no back pain.

The trays are designed so that the pedal is pretty much flush with the deck surface. Click here to see how mine looks:

I did a write up with pictures on how I did my installation - you can check it out here, maybe it'll give you some ideas:

Flat Foot Installation

I've only heard of one preson say they felt their pedal was a bit too low, and they just made a 1/2" spacer to place under the pedal to raise it up just a tad.

One thing I would suggest is to take a look at the Flat Foot brand because the rear or the tray is sloped in a bit to give your heel more room when you have your heel full down.

Also, head down to a busy ramp or tournament weigh-in and I'm sure some of the guys will let you stand on their deck to see how it feels!

Brian - I put a Comfortroll in my Ranger and I LOVE IT!! Much better positioning and much less tired after a full day on the water. Got mine from and installed by C & C Marine. Give Mike a call and he will take care of you.

Either tray - Comfortroll or Flat Foot should be available locally at the usual shops or they can be had a Cabela's. I know Gene carries both at The Hook, and I'm sure either C & C or Galaxie can get them as well.

I installed the Flatfoot on mine. I like the shape and a little more room around the edges that the flat foot gives you over the comfortroll. Either one is slightly above flat to the deck, so you don't have to "reach" on the full forward or full aft. They have saved me back pain, and make the all day trips for days on end easy compared to without one. Dude, do it!!!

I did mine this year - Thanks to Jim Slusher owner of Comfort Troll. The hardest part was just bringing myself to drill the first hole and begin cutting. My only regret is that I did not go it sooner. I absolutly love the recessed trolling motor. I wont own another boat without it. I can speak for the other brands but the CT allows both the MG and Minkota to sit pretty much flush. I feel like I have more control in ruff water and definitly saves my back and feet.

The install was really simple too. The hardest part was carving out all the foam under the deck. In all it took my just over an hour to complete the install. I recommend it!
