Why do most pros run 20' boats?

Post by big_gorilla »

I'm just wondering why so many of the top pros on the Elite series and FLW run 20' boats and not 21's. It seems that most pros run Z20, 20X, 20I and so on. Why not 21 footers?

QFT.
I got a 19 just for that reason. Those with 20's have to put in at an angle and take up the whole garage.
I don't know why people around here get these huge boats and motors the speed limits are 35 at most lakes..lol

I run a 20 footer for better handling in rough water on mead. I had a 18'6" and there is a big difference.

Ron C has run both and I have been in his 521, Z21 and 520 and Z20

He said that the 20's manuver better (but the 21's ran smoother in big water)

They rn the bigger boats for the bigger water (clear lake, shsta and mead)

I am guessing that it is what their sponsors want them to run in. I admire the year Jay Yelas fished out of a alumnimum boat to get his fish now thats class!

20s are faster and for most water work fine. Some dont have 21+ and the boat deal is different for different guys. Its easier to sell the 20 ft boat as well

Most of the pros that I know are running 20 or 21 foot boats. I am currently running a Z21 but will most likely run a Z520 in 2009.

The 21 foot boat is a tad too big for my fishing style. However, it shines in the rough stuff on Mead and CR.

I'll run a 20 footer in 2009 because I will have a better chance getting into my secret spots on the Delta, Clear Lake and Havasu. Plus, a 520 or Z520 is pretty much a 21 footer. I think that there are like 6-8 inches in difference, but some of the spots I like to fish that cold make all the difference in the world.

Not all 20 footers are faster than 21 footers. My Z21 is 1-2 mph faster than my Z20 was. I think that the Z520 is 1-2 mph faster than a Z21. My Z21 is runninig 73-74 fully loaded. I pre sold my Z21 so I can't say that selling a 20 footer is any easier. With this economy nothing is easier about selling a used boat.

i think most pro's run a 20' because there easier to resale then the 21'. I also think thats why most companys now can add a console to the boat to make it duel.

I don't need a 21 footer Morris. I just need to sell my boat to get something a little bigger. 20' would be the max.

I think setup the same the heavier boat is slower. So the 21 is generally slower.
I think the length depends on the deal too. I'll be running a 21'10 in two years. I personally think the 21s fish better.
