Where is White Slough?

Post by L Dub »

Hi Everyone,

Been out for a while traveling and stuff. I haven't been on the water in 6 weeks!

Thinking about heading out this weekend and maybe trying out some new water. There's a tourney with the SCBBBC that I'm thinking about fishing.

Question is. Where's White slough? I tried googling and came up with this result.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=white+slo ... 2&t=h&z=16

Is that it or am I way off target?

Thanks in advance.

Whites Slough is on the back side of Bouldin Island. Not far from Potato Slough.

sTony

PS - Your map looks like its showing Vallejo, not the Delta.

Ok that took me a bit to figure out where we were. No that is not the Whites Slough you are looking for. It is in the East Delta. It runs between Honker Cut and Bishop Cut. The easiest way to get there is off of Eight Mile Rd. off of I-5 in Stockton. Head West on Eight Mile and you can launch at either Paradise Point or King Island and head north. Lots of grass, islands and rip rap banks.

Hope this helps

You know when you KNOW you're wrong, but still want to ask? Yep.

The area that I showed the link for: Is that to far out to be holding LMB? That looks like a good area to fish. Any fish there before?

White Slough: I can't find it. :( I'll keep looking though.

white's slough is the northern boundary of empire tract and king island. if you launch at paradise point, head north on bishop cut and you'll run right into it. or, launch at tower park marina and head south on little potato slough and it will fork off to the east into white's. there's fish in white's but it is so choked with weeds, it's a little hard to fish.

it's White's Slough and your map is way off.... I think yer looking at Marine World in Vallejo ????????????

It's very easy to find using any Delta map. White's runs east/west between Dissapointment Slough and HWY 12. Little Potato slough is at the West end and Bishop cut is at at the East end....... Honker Cut connects to White's in the middle...

Close launch ramps would be Paradise Point Marina (Dissapointment slough), Tower Park marina (Little Potato), or Honker Cut / King Island (both on honker cut)

BTW,,, there's no fish there  and if you do find fish by some mistake, they're all small 8) Do yerself a favor and stay away 8)

I heard it is the bermuda triangle of the Delta. For the safety of you and your passengers do not even pass through there on the way to other spots.

speaking of white's slough, how's the ramp at tower park marina? i normally like B&W but turning left out onto highway 12 at certain times of the day is just plain scary.

I have never launched at tower park but I dont mind the ramp at Pardise especially when launching solo. Pardise puts you out into Dissapointment just short boat ride away from Whites Slough. There are also no fish in disappointment

Just be mindfully that you need to turn into the ramp on the right side and not strait up and down as it looks like turn 3 in Daytona

thanks everyone for the replies. By George, I think I've got it now.

It's a little further than I thought. I just remembered I'm helping my buddy move that day anyways. :( He's gonna owe me BIG time.

Guess I'll just have to head out Sunday instead.

I sugest downloading google earth. You can zoom in anywhere in the world, put the cursor on a spot and it will give you exact GPS coordinates, and it's free.

Make sure to unclick/unselect the boxes that say, Set Google as my default search and notify me of changes and Search Google Earth from your web browser (Installs Google Toolbar), if you don't want them or it will do it automatically.

And Stay Out Of Potato Sl. As Well !!
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Hey L Dub,
The correct name for the slough is White Slough, and you should have a good fix on its location now thanks to previous posters.
While it may not have any fish (yeah, right!), you may be interested to know that when Florida-strain LMB were first planted in the Delta, they were put in White Slough and Disappointment Slough. 'Nuff said.

Roger,
That's some interesting info there. i did not know that.

Is there any particular reason they chose these 2 sloughs for the initial implant?

Sorry, Kopper, but I don't know the rationale for choosing those sloughs...it may have been as simple as which were most accessible to stocking truck(s) coming in from the Highway 5 side.

Hopefully, someone with more knowledge of that early stocking will come aboard here and fill us in.
