Where to find a jig mold......

Post by Fish Chris »

for this hook (the top one on this page.... the 5313.... in either 2/0 or 3/0)

http://www.ownerhooks.com/pages/product ... ghooks.htm

I'm wanting a 1/4 oz football style, and also a 3/8 stand up style.

I've surfed around and found companies that offer 9000 different jig molds, but I'm having problems finding molds to work with specific hooks..... and you won't likely ever find anybody so freaking nit-picky about "specific hooks" as myself. I drive myself crazy with this !

Any jig pouring specialists here ?

Not trying to be lazy here..... I did surf for about 2 hours last night, to no avail.... So a couple straight links, to the actual molds I need, would be freaking awesome ! :-)

Thanks in advance,

Chris, Do-it makes a football mold with 90 degree hook. It's made for lighter wire hook, but you can modify easily depending on the difference in hook shank diameter. Since the molds are aluminum they can be modified rather easily by putting the hook you want into the mold and simply closing and against a flat surface hit it with a hammer a few times on each side. I know it sounds weird, but I have done it multiple time to other molds and it works great. Got the idea off tackle underground where a lot of do-it-yourselfers hang out. Otherwise you can use a dremel and slowly take off where needed. The hammer method is easiest and you'd be surprised at how well it works. You can try it on the other sizes that you don't use regularly to practice and make sure it works with the hook size/diameter you're trying to use.

Hey Rob, I found this mold > Football Jig FBB-14 < on this page: http://www.do-itmolds.com/prodmolds.aspx?c=193

.....and it seems like a pretty close fit. They say for size 1/0 and 2/0 hooks, and I'll probably use 3/0, but they will certainly be of a heavier wire than they Aberdeen hooks they reccomend..... so this will require some modification. I'd sure hate to waste a $44 mold ! Kinda' scary.... but don't see any other choices.

I do like that it will produce 7 of the same 1/4 oz jigs, at one time. That should make pouring 100 or 200 in a session, pretty quick.

Thanks again,
Fish
