I fish my Senkos most of the time texas rigged on a 3/0 EWG Gamakatsu worm hook. For heavy line or braid, step up to the thicker wire braided line hooks in the same size. You can go 4/0 if you want but I like 3/0's best.

Reaction Innovations wacky/weedless hooks are the way to go...rig the senkos with a small (1in-3/4in) nail in the large end. Wacky Style.

If you are using braided line, the Gamakatsu Super Line hooks are the best way to Texas rig a Senko. If a big hog hits the Senko with a regular wire hook on, the braid and the fish will likely bend the hook, and your hog will run free. The size of the hook is base on what size Senko you are flipping with. Tight Lines!

EWG hooks are good but you'll get higher hook-up precentages with a round bend hook.

Round bend hooks git my vote. Offset, Round bend hooks are better suited for long skinny plastics. When I first started to use Senkos, I too used the EWG, simply because it was what I used for weightless Flukes, Slugos and such. But I began to experience problems with that hook in my attempts to land fish. I had way too many fish coming unbuttoned with the EWG and many that were getting throat hooked. This is because the design of the EWG cause it to turn on the hookset and grab the nearest flesh, which would be the throat or the meaty flesh in the upper roof of a basses mouth. The other thing I discovered is that while playing with Senkos in my pool, the bait fell differently on the EWG versus the Round bend.

EWG hooks are designed for wide bodied baits like flukes, Slugos, wide Zippers, large Brush hogs and Beavers. I think you'll find if'n ya experiment, that round bend hook will be more productive for ya on the skinny Senko baits.

Round bends, big ones. Owner can have a tendency to slice, at full contact distance. Think of round bends as a gaff. (Thanks Carlos!) Stick those fish, and bring them over the side. I also avoid the worm style hooks, just a straight shank. EWGs have some features but some problems as well as Cooch pointed out. Simply put, if the fish is hooked PAST the sharp bend in an EWG Gammie, it is yours to keep and a booger to get unbuttoned. If however the hook does not penetrate fully past the sharp bend it can come off. Owner riggin hooks come right around and keep the fish on the bend. I prefer to skip all this and just fish straight shanks, gain the maximum penetration, and just catch them.

Another twist is the Sugio hooks by Yammie, and they can work well too with a reel set. No hard hooksets with these or they might well bounce out. (Ask John Harper, who watched me switch back and forth screwing up bites and hooksets! )

I have learned a new way to fish them in heavy cover that just kill the bass! It's good to be fishing with the Japanese. Our home lake is much like the delta minus the tides, we fish in 1-2 foot of water, clear water is 6 inches of visability and we fish cover and so much cover, if it aint boat docks it is tules (ashai in japanese) then were fishing man made structure.

Wish I could tell the secret but I am sure a few are using it in the states and can't help.

Went to the the Reaction WW hook in Feb of this year after some trouble with EWG hookups and problems fishing the EWG in cover. The WW has been solid for me on hookups, each and every time thru the nose of the fish. They are hooked hard and solid, been able to get 100% into the boat without issue. I fish it weightless, wacky on 12lb Seagur Flouro

The WW hook is a "Shiner Hook, Up Eye" that they use with some ultra heavy mono tied on acting as the weed guard. In weedless situations I'll cut the weedguard off, but when pitching into submerged trees/bushes the weedguard does a pretty good job -- not 100% snag proof but better than a bare hook.

Love to learn more about fishing the senko in heavy cover - floating grass, pushing up drifting debris, etc. We were at a fresh water inlet on the lake yesterday that we knew for sure held bass but couldn't figure out how to punch thru the cover and still have the senko retain its presentation characteristics - frustrating.
