Whats the Best Rod (worm/Jig) for under $80

Post by Brian Manthe »

I've got $150 to spend for rods, I've got the nice reels now, but need to upgrade rods. My option is to buy 1 nice rod or 2 middle of the road rods. Looking for the opinions of others on this one.

Thanks,

I use Berkley Lightning rods. I've been real happy, in fact I just picked up a new 7' medium casting IM7 3/8 to 3/4 oz w/ 10 guides today for $69.

Thanks,
Look at Falcon Low Rider series. I love the FLC 5-168 for jigs, Ikas, and Senkos. They are a med. heavy rod with a tip that extends down about 24", which makes them cast lighter stuff great. But they also are perfect for heavy (3/4 oz.) blades. Great rods, $100+-, and made in the U.S.A. Plus they have a great warranty policy.

I gotta echo what Survivor recommended. I pretty much use the Shimano Clarius line of rods exclusively and highly recommend it. When you consider price ($50 to $80) AND quality (very good) the Clairus line is hard to beat.

Another alternative is to buy a used Loomis IMX ... for that money, you can likely get close to getting a used MBR783 or MBR784 (for 6'6") or MBR843 or MBR844 (7'ers).

Watch for them on the classified section or on eBay

I agree, the Clarus is an awesome rod coming in well under $80. Cant beat that over the counter no hassle warranty either!!! The new Compre series might be a good option too. They are a little more refined and start at $90.
