what do you use to cut a graphite rod with?

Post by troutnut »

I have an 8.5 foot 12 weight 2 piece flyrod blank in the garage I want to cut down to just less than 7.5 feet and rig as a crankbait rod. It has great sensitivity, but 6 inches off the top would firm it up a little and 6 inches off the bottom would give it more parabolic, smooth action. Can I just use a fine blade hack saw in a miter box, or do I need a special tool?

I cut the tip off an old graphite rod with a dremel tool and its cutting wheel. Put the tool on high speed and took it off in a flash....if I was cutting a thicker part of the rod, that might have been a bit trickier.....

Yup - Dremel tool

I used to build custom golf clubs and I did all my cutting/shaping with a dremel and a cutoff wheel.

Trout............ Is there an Archery Shop near you ?

Most all of them have the saw for cutting Carbon Arrows to lenght with precise mesurements and True angles.

There used to be one in Susuin right on hwy 12 some years back. -- I am sure they would not charge you a thing... Just lend them an ear for a spell in letting them show you all the rewards of that sport.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I have built many custom rods and the best thing that has worked for me is an Xacto saw blade. It is rectagular and available in a coarse and fine tooth blade. Get the fine tooth blade. You can get the blades at hobby or craft stores.
