I'm looking for constructive feed back on Daiwa products. Please let me know what you think of our Reels, Rods, Lures & Line. Also what would you like to see in new products. Please send feedback via my Western Bass mailbox.
I'm a diehard Shimano guy when it comes to casting reels. I know that Daiwa makes high quality casting reels, but I'm too satisfied to look elsewhere. Spinning reels is a totally different matter for me. I think Shimano's line of middle to high grade bass spinning reels lacks the breadth of Daiwa's line. For example shimano goes from the Stradic to Sustain and finally to the Stella. There is a huge jump in price and quality from the Sustain to Stella. While the Sustain is nice I don't feel that it is a huge improvement over the stradic. DAiwa's equivilent to the Sustain would be the Luvias which is nice, then Certate, then Steez and whatever else. The Certate bridges the gap that Shimano is missing. Also Daiwa's spinning reels, even the lower to middle grade have nice smooth drags across the board
I think that Daiwa reels(mid to high end) some I like, some not so good
(1) TD-Z one of my favorite reels of all time (once the cheeze drags are replaced)I have two of them, to bad you stopped making them
(2) TD sol great freespool but the gears are rough for a small reel, I like the MAG 50 much better
(3)TD Fuego Very heavy for a magnizium reel, gears are OK, the red not my faverite color for a reel, don't realy like the reel, I had two of them, off to E-Bay they went
(4)TDX-103hsdf the reel is solid, I like the feel, it's not a round, or teardrop, it's like a hybread reel, very good freespool, just a great feeling reel, I have two of them, I didn't like the 100
(5)TD-Zillion I realy like this reel it's one of my faverite high speed reels, I have two of the 7to1 and thiking of getting a 6to1 but I have TD-X for that
(6) TD-STEEZ the reel is awesome I think the best reel ever made but to much money for me, may be some day
Daiwa dosn't make a good cranking reel, the Curado 200DPV and the no longer made Curdo-200B38 are my cranking reels, the Curado 300DSV is the reel I like for big baits and as a Calico bass reel, the TD-Coastal is a little to cheezey for me, it's an Advantage with CRB bearings, I would like to see a better saltwater casting reel
So I think Shimano and Daiwa make some great reels, but the Shimano reel service I think is better and more forgiving when it comes to reel repair issues
as for the rods, I think you should stick to reels
Baits, I haven't realy tried the baits, I stick with the Lucky Craft and the Megabass stuff

Dont even get me going on Diawa vs. Shimano. I grew up with Diawa so when I decided to get back into Bass fishing I naturally looked at and purchaced Diawa reels, 3 to be exact. 2 of the 3 had bad drags, falty parts bunched with bad customer service, this made me switch over to Shimano. Since then I purchesed 5 Chronarchs and 11 Calais, 1 Calais DC, 2 Stellas, 2 MG's and 2 Stradic MGFA Spinning reels. Not one Shimano reel has needed sevice. Diawa's are last weeks dirty T shirts, there over rated piles of bad mechanical garbage, to expensive for what it offers and a 1 year reel at best.
The 3rd reel ended up going to the wife, she doesent use it anymore because it has become "hard to turn", she uses the MG now, its her "best favorite".
My work is done here
Friendship is like peeing in your pants, everyone can see it, but only you can feel the true warmth.
Daiwa reels are very strong, smooth and cast a mile. I am a fan of both the their spinning and casting reels. I only own one Daiwa rod and that's the Frog Rod. As far as service, I lost one of my spools and called their service line, they were very friendly and said that my spool would be in the mail the very same day, I received it a couple of days later. I own one Steez casting reel and it is just flat out insane. I've always had good luck with Daiwa products.
The Fuego is a good reel for pitching, the Zillion is a great reel for heavy spinner baits a small swimbaits, but the Japan only Alphas-103 and super light Pixy are my two favorites. Put a Alphas-103 or Pixy on a Kistler Helium II rod, and it has to be the light combo on the on the planet...
All I fish with is mainly the Steez and the Zillions. I like a reel with a great free spool and with these two reels I believe they are the best for that.
Shimano makes some great reels but some of the issues with the high end reels is their coating comes apart. I had some MG's but the coating just peeled off of them. The Cailais is a nice reel but for that kind of money I would much rather buy the Steez which is a much better reel and half the weight. At 5.5 oz. you won't find anything lighter.
Oh and keep your eyes out for the new Steez spinning reel coming out. It's a smaller version which will be awesome.
As for the rods I'm fishing the Steez and I just got my new Cielo flipping rod which is awesome. I would take that over my partner Loomis any day of the week. I let my partner use it and he told me I might lose that rod. I'm bigger then him so no worries. ha ha
I know Daiwa is bringing more models of the Steez rods over and when they do you know I will be buying some of them.
As for Shimano rods. Well lets just say as one guys said earlier about Daiwa they should stick to making reels.
I don't think they make a good rod that's why they bought Loomis.
Their are lots of choices so go with what you like.
