What do you recommend for rain boots?

Post by Glennt »

I have worn a pair of Daiwa Neo Boots for the last few years but can't wear them anymore. Can't seem to find them in a larger size??? What do you guys recommend for a new pair of boots. Something warm, light weight and easy to get into yet doesn't flop around when you walk in them. What is your choice??"?

Danner makes an excellent work/hiking type boot. I'm on my second pair. Awesome boots that are worth every penny. They are lined with gortex and will not let you down in extreme weather.

I have worn a pair of Hitec Mid Rain Boats the last three years and my feet have NEVER been wet. Of course I wear a pair of Seal Skins underneath them. You can basically put on a pair of Seal Skins and walk in water......yep your feet are still dry. I know folks here on NCBF have talked about them many times. This is where I learned about them.
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.

Think about over-boots...

Pat Dilling introduced me to Neos "overboots" a few years ago. They are awesome! These 100% waterproof "overboots" allow you to wear your regular, comfortable fishing shoes in all weather as they simply cover your regular shoes. They are light, and in cold weather, they are warm because you can wear your regular tennis shoes with a couple layers of thick socks inside. That allows you to adjust for lots of different conditions instead of having one set of boots for all conditions. Also, if you got out prepared for rain and the day turns out nice you just slip them off and stow them away.

Thanks again Pat for the tip.

I second what Jason said.....
I have a pair of these, they are Gore Tex and the tread isn't to agressive. Doesn't mess up your boat carpet....

Got mine at Sportsman's Wherehouse

Seal skinz socks under tennis shoes is the way to go! I hate to run the trolling motor with boots on. It is hard to feel the button. Gene at The Hook can hook you up. 925-625-2441

Yup, what he said! Seal Skin and a pair of light weight slip on deck shoes. Light weight, very comfy and ya have 100% manuverability! Ya think a Gymnast would wear tennis shoes on the balance beam? Same concept when wearing boots! Plus, they can be very hard on carpets and leather seats.

Do the Seal Skinz keep your feet warm, or just dry? I have a pair of the gloves and sometimes my hands still get cold.

Yes, the do keep yer feet warm, but ya really need to wear a pair of wool socks under them. If'n ya just wear the Seal Skinz, yer feet will git cold, just like wearing no socks in any kinda boot or shoe when it's cold and raining.

I've never used the Seal Skin gloves, been quite content with good ole Woolies with the finners cut off, rain or shine.

I like seal skins and tennies, you have to put them on kind of carefully.

Adding to Cooch's boot comment, I HATE boots in the boat!

Something happens to people when they put boots on. They kick stuff more, bang them off things, and in general tend to put them down harder and stomp around more. Guys that wear them every day don't too much, but the average guy stomps around and makes way too much noise in the boat.

(I once sent a guy back to put his sneakers on.)

With athletic type shoes, and Seal Skins you remain the stealthy bass catching ninja!

Nike Gore Tex trail runners in 3/4 top. Way lighter than boots and if it's -10 buy a size bigger with wool or seal skinz socks.

I agree sealskinz and tennis. You may want to purchase your tennis a bit larger, by the time you put on wool socks, sealskinz and tennis, you are out of room for your feet. I also use four hot packs. I put one inside the top of each fingerless fleece glove and one inside the top of each boot. The hot packs for the boots are placed between the sock and the sealskinz as to avoid direct contact with the skin, the hotpacks for the gloves doesn't matter. You have access to your gloves. I fished the FLW at Shasta in January using this method and remained relatively comfortable.

Hope this helps ya
