What do you carry in your boat.

Post by John F. »

I am getting my boat ready for its first trip out this year and was wondering what you all carry in your boat when you go out. Besides all the rods, reels and tackle.

thanks

Lost of good suggestions already given. Here's a few that are must haves.

First Aid Kit!
Flares!
Fire Extinguisher!
Extra clothing incase you fall in (beenie, cold weather pant/shirt, gloves, socks, rain poncho)

These items will save your life or someone elses some day.

Dont forget a spare prop for the trolling motor. I've had a day or two on the water ruined because I didnt have an extra prop.

Besides the standard coast guard required equipment, I carry the following:

Spare Prop, prop wrench, small block of wood for changing the prop, 1 Gallon of Merc Oil, Jumper Cabels, small tool set that has the common sockets, wrenches, screwdriver, pliers, wire cutters, crimpers. A few small electrical connectors, extra fuses, an extra livewell pump (if they can be change easy)

Don't for get at least 50feet of rope to be towed with but preferable 100 feet. I have been towed in at least 3 times on the delta and once towed for 56 miles on lake powell.

The idea is to keep it simple yet effective if you need the items. I might even carry a extra set of spark plugs and spark plug socket incase you foul a plug. (shouldn't happen on the new motors but you never know)

that's about it. I leave the anchor out.... Too heave and I want to go faster then these dudes running bullets and allisons!
