Hey Norcdogk9,
Day time watermelon candy creature baits on shakey head or football head or watermelon red flake yamamoto hula grubs rigged the same way, pumpkin seed is also a good daytime color, remember it has a lot to do with the water color when you are fishing, Clear lake can be brown mud or crystal clear like it has been for the last year, if the water you are fishing is clear go natural forage colors, if it stained go darker, at night its a whole dif ball game, go black/purple, brown/black, brown/orange or the famouse 10 inch berkley black power worm.

Last year I got a 9.9 on black/blue creature bait by reaction innovation and a 8.2 on the watermelon red flake hula grub both on 4/0 shakey heads.

I love Clear Lake but am not happy with what I am seeing on avg trips there this year, I am hopeing it will change in the next 3 weeks when I am up there again but the Ford tourney winners had 52 lb for 2 days, I don't have those skills:(

As mentioned, depending on water color you can move from the Brown Purple \ Blk purple to the natural Watermelon blck, 221 etc... just like any other fishery.

Some Dont leave home without ums for me would be

Brown and Black Wadda Jigs with Purple trailers and Saphire blue trailers and Black Pork. Watermelon red flake trailer, smoke purple, and hemphills special.

Typically I can rotate one of these colors into getting a bite going and they may change throughout the day.

Yes, my buddy had good luck in the fall with that. I've been having great luck with a 1/2 oz red head w/black/red skirt revenge with a rattle and red purple sweet beaver and procure craw.

Blaze orange/lite green pumpkin
Blaze orange/hunter green/red & black flake
brown/purple flake/hunter green black flake
These three colors work in reg skirted jigs or finesse puffball jigs these three colors work well pretty much year around on clear lake and shasta also depending on what style you want to throw and hook size these three colors work well.Ive built alot of these jig colors just for clear lake and shasta both for some of my old customers that have fished tournaments on both lakes.

One of the jigs I like up there is the Brown and Purple 2 by California Reservoir Lures. Then I put a purple twin tail grub on it.

Brown and Purple is always a good bet. I prefer a "Phenix" Footballhead jig in some of the colors I designed. Cali Craw and Brown Sugar were both made for Clear Lake! They both always work up there. I will trailer it with a twin tail Yamamoto in 297, 208, or 330.
Hope this Helps...

.02 on jigs.

Black with either red or blue or just black.

Brown, you can add purple and get the whole peanut butter/jelly thing going on.

A guy can fart around with green colors, and go baby bass etc.

And finally white or some pearl looking shad thing.

Well for the real custom manufacture of handcrafted jigs i try to give as much imput on building the right styles and sizes of jigs for the right situation and season and keeping fisherman updated on the newest custom colors in silicone skirting material. And building the latest custom colors for lakes from northern too central ca. Ive even built jigs for southern ca. lakes also. Does it matter if was a four year old thread NOT REALLY

Black & Blue works best for me whenever I'm flippen and the water is stained to dirty.
90% of the time though, I use a brown and afix a dark colored trailer that best triggers the most strikes.
As long as it's brown, I don't believe from my experience, that there is any one color combonation that works better than another. Those fish up there will bust any brown combination ya toss at em. More often than not, it's the action of your trailer and fall rate of the jig, that triggers more or less bites.

With yamamoto 4"or 5" double tail hula grubs you cant go wrong there either with the wide range of colors and you adding football head jigs w fiberguards or using weedless yamamoto jigheads this can be a deadly combo from early fall into winter and into early spring.
