What is the best Headlamp for night Fishing?

Post by Rfisher »

My son in Law and I have been night Fishing Clear Lake and have had great luck with swimbaits. We are now using Headlamps with a light that seems to bright. We don't want to shine it on the water but not in someones home either.

I found a website that has a Headlamp with a black light and white lights. Would this work? Thank you for any advice!

I would stick w/ a red light for two reasons.

1. it won't effect your night vision once your eyes have adjusted to a low light situation, exposure to most light spectrums will require your eyes to readjust to low light scenarios, rendering your eyes pretty worthless for about 20 minutes.

2. smart people say red disappears in the water column the quickest

Go w/ a black light if you are line watching and combo it w/ a flourescent line. I've used black light/flourescent line pitching senko's when you couldn't feel a bite and it was pretty cool.

In terms of a brand/model I've got a couple cheap head lamps from Lowe's that have red/white options for around $12.00 and run on AA's...work like a champ...

I think I can speak on this subject! What you don't want is a light that you have to press several times to turn it off. Some have different setting or colors and it is annoying to have to keep clicking to turn it off. There are several that are good. Believe it or not - Smith & Wesson make a good, solid lamp. A bit heavy, but solid. Quarrow is also a good brand, as is Petzl. Garrity makes (or did make) a very lightweight one that was excellent. Hope this helps!!

I have a nice one made by Streamlight with 2 brightnesses that goes on the hat or head. Works great and fairly lite.

I do a lot of night fishing and have owned a handful of headlamps. Some being too bright and some not being durable and some although nice just too expensive. Ease of operation is important at night so heres a link to what I've stuck with. http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemanc ... 116&brand=. It has three brightness settings for the LED and most important the red and also blue LED settings all at the turn of a dial. The bezel rotates up and down. Its fairly light and compact. It also has a battery meter. I found mine on sale at Big 5 for about $25 out the door so check it out you really cant go wrong! Ive never tried blacklight lamps and from my understanding flourocarbon is the only line that is sensitive to blacklight.

I don't worry about lights on at night. I use what I can see with. I spot light or use a bigger light on the fish to get them in the net too.

There some good light weight clip on led lamps, however you will be shinning the light everywhere you look.
Try using an underwater light at the transum to luminate the area you are fishing indirectly. Brinkmann and Optronics makes some inexpensice underwater lights that work good. Green color light maybe a good choice if bugs are an issue.

Lowes hardware store have camo baseball hats with lights built in the bills of them. These things are about $20 a piece and last a LONG time. You have three settings on the hat too. There are lights under the bill for tying baits, and ones on the tip of the bill to help net fish and final setting has all lights lit up to take care of everything at once!

I have a hat also (Camo) it is one touch on or off with two lights in the bill. I do like it though. Takes same batteries as the berkley scale
But then again I have every other kind of light too

for me, it doesnt matter on what is good head lamp. i use the light to get the the spot im gonna throw and then just turn the light off. i do all the casting in the dark. sometimes its hard to see the spot where u want to cast to but i just blink my light like 2 times and estimate my distance and angles..easier to see in the dark on a full moon. or u can use a red light...try practice casting and pitching in the night..hope it helps! tight lines

John Deer Mechanics hat with lights built in. Not sure where you would get it. A customer gave me one and I fish alot of night tourneys and this is by far the best I have found.
