What Size Shimano Spinning Reel? 2500 vs 3000.

Post by TonkaKid »

What size shimano Sustain spinning reel should I get. 2500 or 3000. I have no used any of Shimanos newer spinning reels. Looking to get a new sustain but unsure on size. New spools look smaller to the eye but the line capacity specs are the same. Will be using 8 and 10 pound flurocarbon on them. Have all 2500's now, just wondering what size since they have been redesigned. Thanks.

I dont like to use anything bigger then I have to. That said I tried a Shimano and the thing has had the worst line twist Ive ever seen. So maybe the bigger Shimano would help. For me Ill stay away from the Shimano and stay with the smaller stuff.

The 1000, 2500 and 3000 use the same gear box and frame. The rotors and spool diameters increase with the larger sizes. For 8-10 FC I would use the 3000 or 2500.

The only difference between the 2500 and 3000 size from shimano is the depth of the spool. You are only gaining line capacity with the larger size, the two reels will not handle line any different. Really it would probably be better to go with the 2500 so you are not filling the reel up with line that will end up being wasted. Castability only improves on spinning reels with larger diameter spools or taller spools so you should go with which ever handle you like more because that is the only difference you will notice when fishing it.
