What is a good bass boat for about $15K?

Post by sirie123 »

I'm looking to buy a bass boat. I like to do some research prior to buying. My budget is about $15K or so. Should I buy a new or used? I'm thinking that I would use the boat for a while, maybe 5 years or so. I wanted to find out what people's thought were for a good started bass boat. I usually fish the Delta and Clear Lake. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You'll have to to first decide on whether you want to go aluminum or fiberglass. If you decide on glass you're likely looking at the used boat market with your budget. There are a lot of good boats out there and I'd suggest you start looking in our clasified forum first.

Jsut click on Classifieds at the top of this page and you'll be taken directly there.

Also jsut about every new boat delear out there also sell used boats. Might wanna check into the dealers closest to you.

The delta and clear lake are both "Big" water. If you are serious about your fishing and want to be able to move about these waters comfortably and safely, I'd go with a fiberglass boat at least 19 feet in length. Even at that size, you are going to have to be careful.

For a New glass boat about the only one I would pick at that price is the Stratos. Stratos has a small bass boat about 17' with a 90 hp. It has a lot of room for a small boat. I was in that same market so in the year 2000 I got the Javelin 17' at 16,100 out the door. and the next year the stratos was a grand cheaper.
I just dont have much luck with used.
GOOD LUCK!

I dont think that is true max. I have been on some BIG waves on Clear lake, Pedro, and the delta in my little 17' Javelin. The boat gets me there and I win in tourneys just fine in my little baby LOL!
Oh, and I do take my tourneys serious. LOL!

One of my customers just reduced his Triton TR170 down to $11,500 OBO. He just ordered a new Ranger. The flyer says" 90HP Evinrude FICHT, Motorguide 756 12/24 volt, Pinpoint & Lowrance fish finders, stainless prop. His # is (916) 725-6377 or (916) 223- 6147. This is a very clean boat and I've known the guy for years.

Listen to what Don has to say. He has been a top finisher at our Classic many times over the years, very serious and very skilled angler. Big boat doesn't mean more fish. Good Luck, Lugnut

I have bought two used boats this year alone. No matter how good of shape it is in or how well it was taken care of ... just set aside about 2K for upgrades or repairs. It may be batteries, fish finders, broken odds and ends or whatever. But ... I can assure you ... you will find/learn things you want to change or upgrade. Make sure to leave yourself that room. I.e. I concur with the buy a boat for 11K theory. But ... I think you would be fine with 13K.
