Was I the only guy to see Jimmy Houston screw up bad?

Post by Johnny C »

While on stage at the Chevy Open (FLW) today he was asked about Chevy Trucks since he is sponsorerd by them. He said that he always tows with a Saburban but he likes some other thier other great cars. Then he said he likes the Malibu but really likes and wants one of those Mustangs they make. He said that car is awesome. I don't know how they let him go on. Man he had to take a ribbing. I felt sorry for the old goat.

No worse than going to the ball game and having the wife stand up and yell touch down when they hit a home run.

How old is Jimmy anyway? I recently went to the tackle store to buy some of my favorite baits and could not remember the name or color. Now that does not bode well for an old tackle collector and fisherman. But, I am now 73, (I think) so I guess I can get a little slack cut.

Thats what happens when you put a lip lock on them Bass. It makes you loose it. I have always liked jimmy. He can sure catch them. And that bowl hair cut is just too cool.

I agree, he's a great fisherman, and a fun guy.
I'm sure his wife will give him the most grief about his slipup. They rib each other pretty good on T.V.

The wife and I had a chance to visit with Jimmy here a few years ago at the Ranger Boat owners tournament. I would think it was something he did on purpose, seems he is always doing stuff like that on purpose, it's just who he is. Very nice and funny guy.

And he's honest. A few years ago, on his T.V. show, he was talking about the rods he was using. He has fished Shimano forever, and said he was just repaying the support they gave him when he first started fishing pro.
Anyway, as he was talking about the rod he was using, he said that you didn't have to spend the extra money for the top of the line rod he was using, because the low end/low price rods Shimano made were equally as good.
The trend now is toward selling more of the cheaper stuff, so we're seeing more and more mention of those rods in adds, but Jimmy Houston did it back when it wasn't a marketing ploy. He was just being honest.
