Wacky rigs: Spinning or baitcasting?
I'm interested in the Powell wacky spinning rod, but have always used a baitcaster setup for Senkos. Anyone have some pros and cons after going from one to the other?

I like baitcasting better. I tried spinning and the shake just didnt feel right to me.......

I have use both for Wacky rigs. Most of the time I use a baitcaster on the Delta and it take less room on the deck. One thing a Spinning Reel is good for is skipping under docks – I’m not talking about a pitch – I’m talking about skipping it three or four times just like skipping a rock when we were kids.

+1 I think they are both a MUST have if your fishing any kind of water with docks on itMarty wrote:I have use both for Wacky rigs. I'm faster with my right hand than I am with my left and it's easier to fish it on a slack line while it's on the drop with spinning gear.

Re: Wacky rigs: Spinning or baitcasting?
I use spinning gear mostly, I use my Dobyn's 702sf. When I get my 703sf I'll upgrade to that. I have had issues on the delta with short strikes or fish comming unbuttoned, and its been suggested that a baitcaster setup may improve some of that...on clear lakes fish just swallow wacky rigs..so no issue there. is the problem weedless hooks or the rod..not sure yet.

Depends on what you be wacky rigging:
for big wacky senkos 9inch worms big 6-8 flick shake
for me casting= 8-10 lb fluoro... loomis mbr842 glx casting calcutta conquest 50 series
reg. flick shake, trick worms, finesse worms, slim senkos
spinning= daiwa steez ml 6-8 spinning daiwa certate 1500, 4-6lb fluoro
The steez is the chit for wacky. unbelievable rod as far as sensitivity goes. they are expensive tho, got mine for 1/2 price

BAIT CASTER 7.0:1 gear raio, with high drag power. I'm a Shimano guy and a lefty. Shimano CU-201E7, CU-201DHSV. On the Delta I got to have power and speed.
On lakes both spinning and Casting reels. But always high speed for me. I like the newer high speed reels. You can burn lures, you can keep fish coming toward you, take up line slack quicker, and punch fish are on top most of the time before they knew what happened. Should you need to slow down don't crank the handle so fast. I just love them. I have been weeding out little by little some of my old slower reels. But I will keep one or two for slow rolling spinner baits or cranks.
