Tying your own weedless wacky senko hooks

Post by DL »

As the wacky rig senko season approaches I thought I would share how I tie my 4/0 wacky senko hook weedguards.

Here is how I tie the weedguard on a 4/0 EWG wide gap finesse Gami:
I tie 7 or 8 wraps of black thread around the shank:

Then hold the bottom of the mono and wrap the thread enough times to hold the mono in place:

Then finish wrapping the hook and covering all the mono:

In this shot I have all the mono covered and i use a drop or two of super glue to secure the thread:

The length of the mono is determined on how big of a bow you want in the line when you tuck it under the barb. I use a piece that is 4 1/4" long and bent right in the middle. I know this is not production quality but it works for me, its cheap, easy to do, and helps me with a six pack of cold ones while watching TV :)

Daren,
Try using old green braid instead of thread.

Kelly,
I bought some of that "invisa" braid when it first came out. It is white, but it's great for retying skirts before the rubber band breaks.
Have you found any that are really invisible, or, at least, less visable?
P.S. How are you doing? I'm going up to your old stomping grounds this weekend for a two day club tourney at Cachuma. Any tips?

Let me rephrase that....

I have many talents that not all are aware of...I can dance, sing, and shoot a fly off a bulls *** at 400 yards

Oh ya, I can't fish either...it just looks like I can cuz I have cool reels and a SHITLOAD of tackle

I spent $6.49 for three Gamy 2/0 hooks last week, and just looked for some way to get quantity at reasonable prices, but did not see anyone selling that (yeah, $4.99 online, plus big shipping charges I noticed).

What I did find while searching was this old thread on WB that popped up, TUL! Now I will make my own. Thanks.
