Trolling motor stuck on one speed

Post by code7 »

I have a 2004 Minn kota trolling motor with 55 lbs of thrust. When I turn the trolling motor on, it stays on around 75% speed. I cannot increase or decrease the speed, its just stuck on one speed. Took the foot pedal apart to see if there was anything obvious like a loose wire but nothing. Since Im clueless on what I am looking for, need some advise on what I can do...... besides taking it in and having it done at a shop, which is the next. Thanks for any input. Ray

most likely it's your variable speed control switch. That's the one used with your foot to control the amount of power your sending to the motor. easy to install and don't cost much. Gene will have one.

I had this exact same problem last week with my MG109. The variable speed knob's shaft had broken(it's plastic), hence the knob was spinning freely on the post. Not having replaced one of these before the removal process was puzzling me, fearing I'd break it even more, I just took it down to Gene at the Hook. 5 minutes, he showed me how to remove it, new knob, minimal cost and I was out the door and back on the water.
