Topwater color(s) for overcast skies?
When choosing a buzzbait for overcast skies, for example when a front moves through like yesterday, I don't hesitate to use black. However, with other topwaters - Spooks, Sammies, Poppers, Chuggers, Prop Baits - I'm more reluctant. What are your go to color choices for these other topwaters under these conditions? Black or something with bright color(s)?

I caught a few fish a couple weeks ago on a lunker punker. It was WINDY overcast and just ugly! Water temp was 53. I usally woudnt throw it on a day like that. But I was willing to try anything. It worked! I would just give what you want to throw a shot. You just never know.

The majority of all forage a bass might attack on the surface has a white belly, or at least one with pale colors..It would make sense to toss anything with a light colored under belly..

im with ya on the bone white. Personally I think people get way too caught up in color selection when it comes ta topwater baits. if the bait is worked properly is gonna get chomped on. the only two colors I toss on top are bone and okie shad..thats it.

I pretty much go with the bass colored spook. caught em with it in sunny conditions ,windy, overcast, rain and fog doesnt seem to matter.

Ms Slammer or Lunker Punker
For other topwater Lime Ice is a go to bait for me in my spooks and the standard ghost colors work just as well in the overhead days as with the low cloudy days.
I really think action is the #1 thing to figure out and color is just a matter of how well they are eating it.
I am with you on Buzzbait I only need two colors black or white and switch colors depending on if the fish are shorting the bait.

I agree action or lack there of sometimes.....also size can play a big part depending on time of year.

one day the only color the fish were biting for me was on a clear spook
they wouldn't take anything else it was like three fish to one on the clear spook
it was weird

I've trimmed down my topwater arsenal here on the Delta and ClearLake to three baits, MS Slammer, Lunker Punker and a Popper, with that said my color choices are Lavender Shad, Baby Bass & Blue Gill/Pearch, in order, matching the aformentioned three baits.!
Re: Topwater color(s) for overcast skies?
You really only need 3 colors for topwater if you ask me. Bone white or whitish shiner color, black for dark days or night, and clear for the really sunny days. Sometimes the sunfish/baby bass colors work well, but not enough to be too concerned about them if you want the simplest selection.
