Spirits were high as 14 teams (No Comps) were all set to go at the pre tournament meeting inside the Marina Café at Lake Casitas on Saturday morning February 16. There was one small problem, two of the teams had no partner to fish with. Tournament veteran and longtime pro Stan Vanderburg had no partner, and first time rookie angler Corbin Hames was another angler without a partner. One had a boat, and one did not have the boat. The two of them looked at each other and said hey, let's hook up, lets fish together and go win this thing. And that's exactly what they did. Having never met before, Stan Vanderburg and his partner Corbin Hames went to work and "became friends" and pocketed $1,350 in cash as they put together an impressive 22.08 pound sack of bass and captured the victory at the WON BASS 'Casitas Region" second event of the season. Under absolutely perfect conditions, and warm balmy 80° temperatures Stan and Corbin grinded it out with a Robo Worm fished on a drop shot rig. Casitas veterans Larry Elsher and his son Eric focused on a group of fish in 50 feet of water and dropped a 18.08 pound sack on the scales and collected $670 in cash. Kurt Ebken and his 16-year-old son K.C. also utilize the drop shot rig to put together an 17.24 pound bag of bass and a very impressive 3rd place finish and $450 in cash for their efforts. Big bass of the event was $455 in cash and Elliott Chang and Greg Gallaway were happy to collect it. With a big crowd at the awards ceremony Greg explained how he caught the big fish "on the sink" with a drop shot rig. There are now 21 teams pre-qualified for the first ever "No Entry Fee" WON BASS Tournament of Champions to be held on June 8, 2013 at Lake Casitas. The next tournament on the WON BASS "Casitas Region" tournament trail is March 2. Any anglers that are interested in fishing the "Casitas Region" are always welcome to call or text tournament director Rich Tauber at (818) 439-1154 for more information. I dont forsee many bags over 25lbs but Casitas is chocked full of 5-7lbers. I think its a year or two away from 30lb bags again. Only to think if Casitas ever gets steady trout plants... this lake would explode!kane-o wrote:good weights, looks like casistas is coming back !!
