New Punch Rod Suggestions

Post by bayscotter »

Looking for a new Punch set up. Looking for value, since I seem to enjoy breaking rods. Being able to fasten the hook to the rod without pulling the hook out of the plastic is a must. Thanks in advance.

I'm right there with this one. The Bubs Punch Rod by Irod is great! The new Gen II is a brute!

Powell Tackle Warehouse punch rod is great. I love the backbone with just the right tip so it doesn't wear you out. Shoot me a PM if you want to give it a try.

Just use a flipping stick, the pros were doing the same thing years ago.

I use a Dobyns 805c. It's going to last you forever so you might as well spend the money on a good instead of buying a new one each year. Your going to feel more bites

You have soooooo many good rods available... Based on budget and quality, two rods. $169, Kistler KLX Punch rod (the real G. Loomis helped on this series). Very light, balanced and has micro guides. $289, Daiwa Zillion 8' footer Heavy (TDZL801HFB), marketed as a "swimbait rod" but awesome Punch rod. I use the Zillion in Southern Cal to toss wake baits and small swimmers at DVL, then Punch veggies with it at the Delta.

take a look at the phenix m1 mx-ur80mh swimbait rod. i have not tried this rod yet but vince borges, the local phenix rep, suggested this one to me. i believe the hook keeper is the type that you are looking for. also, these rods have nano resins and are very, very, very difficult to break. price is under $200.
