DELTA or CLEAR LAKE...fishing better right now?

Post by Kbeever »

I am heading up to Redding next week and bringing my boat. I am going to be stopping in Sacramento to visit family and was thinking of fishing either Clear Lake or Delta as a pit stop. Which body of water would you suggest? And what is working on either body of waters. I am from down South (Orange County) and don't fish either of those lakes this time of year.

Thanks for your help.

If you want action... I say stripers for delta and minnows for clear lake.. but if you just want to just run your boat and sight see... both lakes are beautiful.

Definitely the Delta, even though it is not "red hot". The minnow bite even sucks at Clear Lake right now; it is super tough right now. I just spent the day there and we struggled. The delta is fishing tough as well, but there are still plenty of fish to be caught, whether its blacks, stripers, or even smallies. As far as whats working, you can't go you wrong with shallow cranks, lipless baits, rip baits, and some blades. As well as finesse tactics. If you have time, stop by Delta Outdoors in Oakley and they can give you a little more info on whats happening at that time.

Good luck

The key to Clearlake right now is to find bait. I found a school of shad and caught 6 on a lv500 and 6-8 on minnows yesterday morning. The last A/C tournament took almost 29 pounds to win! There are lots of big catfish being caught also.
You do have to move around to find fish and its not red hot but it will get better when it cools a little more .The lake is still 58-60 degrees

Thanks Guys.....I like the Delta idea better. I have been on Clear Lake on those brutal days and found myself dropshotting 13"-14" fish just to catch something.

Don't be let down if'n that happens to ya here too right now! If yer chasin stripers keep yer electronics burning and bottom bounce with a Hairraiser or hollow body! Our temps here are between 58-61 too, just depends on where yer at. Don't git caught up with one tactic, junk fishin tends ta make a misserable day and tolerable one.
