Outstanding!!

for $9.99 you get a killer GPS with navionic high detailed map, plus you can take pictures of your waypoints.

I was thinking of getting this...how is the map for castaic? I assume it only works when the cell has service? Is the GPS pretty precise...precise enough to mark say a small rockpile??

Thanks!

It's pretty good, but I've only used it one day. But for ten bucks, it's sweet. As far as marking a small rockpile... hmmm. But it will put you in the very near vicinity.
I'm going to use it for night fishing, cuz my only gps is on my nose, so this will be perfect for the general movement at night. It does a cool thing too, by letting you take a picture as your way point.

It's not a $2500 gps, it's $10 bucks. Cant go wrong....

I agree. I've been using this program a couple months now, and it has helped me to navigate the Delta and other bodies of water, including Melones and Camanche, both in DENSE fog (at idle speed of course, no flames, please!). The depth contours are right on, and the GPS is accurate enough for navigation, certainly.

As far as marking a rockpile, I'm not sure its quite that accurate, but its close. I've got a lot of pretty specific cuts, draws, timber areas etc marked, and it gets me there.

I'd recomend this app to anyone. Yes, I have my Lowrance GPS/Fishfinders, but this is a good back up and kinda fun. Plus I can sit on the couch and fart with it later. Also, if I'm in a fellow fishermans office and want to share something, its right there on my phone.

The only drawback is the iPhones battery life. I need to get a 12v cigarette charger for my Skeeter!

Regards,

Chris

I used the 12v charger today in my car as I used the basic nav to drive over to the Reagan Library to test it out, and it actually gained battery life.
It was like $20 at the Apple store.

Go to Navionics.com to download the app onto your PC through your iTunes store. You need to download it onto your PC, then load it up by syncing. They tell you not to try to download straight into your phone because it's too big I guess.

You can set your lock up to never, and it will stay lit the whole time.
Push the GPS button and it tracks by moving the screen behind you. It actually zooms you up pretty close.
It's just another deeply cool app that IPhones have.

Yup, it covers the whole delta.

They update it all the time for free, and there was just an update this week. There is more detail and clarity on the map as you zoom in now, showing wrecks, emeregent weed areas's, etc.

Pretty cool for armchair fishing and research! I use it alot on the water too, but just for backup. My battery life is the pits, but thats a whole 'nother story....
