Best fluorocarbon for spinning reels

Post by offduty »

I like the fluorocarbon lines but some just are too stiff for light spinning applications. What do you guys like for Fluorocarbon line that is nice and limp for a spinning reel?

Thanks in advance

Seagar or Sunline

Both aren't cheap, but they are good limp strong lines for spinning reels.

Rich, check out Seaguar Invisix. It's almost as soft as mono. Use KVD line conditioner, and you won't believe it's flouro.

Did you hit the lake Wednesday?

My favorite line on a spinning reel is Berkley 100% fluorocarbon in six pound test. With the use of the KVD line & lure conditioner, I don't experience many of the problems typically associated with fluorocarbon.

If you really like flouro on spinners, use a good braid with a flouro leader. Daiwa Samurai is the best braid you can buy, super smooth 8 strand uncoated, it casts a mile. This works great for worms and jigs but I still like straight flouro for reaction baits....Toray is awesome but Maxima is really good too. Just try the braid / flouro set-up, you won't believe the feel............it's so sensative you can pretty much "see" what the bait is doing.

When you get to the Bass a thon, go over and see the guys at the McCoy table.

You all know McCoy to be the number 1 line for using on a spinning reel. You will be impressed with their 100%, all USA made fluorocarbon.

I work a fri, sat & sun shift and cant attend Bassathon. So far when I have tried braid with a mono leader the knot seems to get hung up in the guides although that was for flipping and pitching.

For spin rods, Toray Super Finesse is the best I've used. Check out the Blackwater Toray web site. It gives pretty good descriptions of what lines are available and great tips on knots and connections.

Interesting...nearly everyone else imports fluorocarbon line due the Montreal Protocol that goes into full affect in 2010.
Soft high tensil strength line is extremely difficult to achieve without additives that affect other line properties. Worth looking into at the BAT.

Use a surgeon's knot and that should care of your problem.

If that bothers you, you can also use some super glue and roll the knot between your fingers to smooth it out... that is what Luke Claussen advocated when he mentioned it at the BAT in his seminars three years ago, and I used it for a while. Also matters how long a tag end you leave on the flourocarbon... I clip mine pretty short, so it doesn't bother me.

As for flourocarbon brands, P-Line is pretty supple in the 4 - 6# ranges and works well with braid.

Take a look at Blackwater Solaroam Bass Hi-Class FC or Sunline Sniper FC. Both are high quality FC line. I use Sunline Sniper on my spinning reels, Shooter on the BC. Use a line dressing with FC; TangleFree or KVD are both good and will not affect the reel.

It's silicone-based, as I recall, and silicone will "relax" line and make it set better on the reel spool, as well as make it more supple.

I tried it, and just wasn't so convinced, although I know some who are and use it faithfully.

Kevin Van Dam Line and lure is a liquid product that keeps your line limp and from coiling. TW has it.
