BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
I need some new buzzbait recommendations, as the ones I've been using either turn over, don't rue true enough(need CONSTANT tuning), aren't good for more than a few fish, don't keel well, (insert excuse here), ETC ETC ETC.
My double buzzbaits are worse...One fish and they're done...Can't get 'em to run correct at all afterward. Your .02 on those would help also...
Basically I just wanna be able to take the buzzer out of the package and fish it right away with very few modifications. I mean I'll add a trailer and what not, but I want something that runs true...Kinda like I remember my buzzbaits doing back in the day. Where the heck did I go wrong, cuz all my EXPENSIVE high end buzzbaits are runnin' like $#it.
Also....
Do you have a knot which you prefer for wire baits like buzzbaits and blades?
Cheers....

Dead Eye double buzzers are very strong; 951/679.8589 or J&T Tackle.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
revenge buzzbaits. the only buzzbait i have ever seen that runs straight like a double buzzer right out of the box. get black widow and shad for the colors. persuader double buzz is also a pretty good double buzz. never had a problem with them and they run true out of the box as well. bobby ds are good but they kinda run to the right like many other buzzbaits do but they are pretty good and catch a ton of fish.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
Try the Ganns Performance Tackle Stealth series buzzbait. I think you'll be pretty impressed. They are hand tuned and have that nice "squeek" right out of the package. You can get them with or without a clacker or even a plastic blade if you prefer. I have yet to have one not run true straight out of the bag and they can definitely stand the abuse of multiple fish. A few colors that I'd recommend would be the 50/50, Lightning Shad and Green Illusion.
Edit: as far as what knot I tie them with, Trilene if I'm using mono or a palomar if I'm Throwing them on braid.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
Check out the Berserk buzz baits, you can find them at the bait barn.
Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
If you can get Rich to make you the Dead Eye baits, buy as many as you can afford. They used to be in stock at Anglers but they have not had any for 2 years.... I only have one left and I only use on special occasions..Oldschool wrote:Dead Eye double buzzers are very strong; 951/679.8589 or J&T Tackle.

Maybe I got a bad batch or something (they are 3~4 yrs old) but not a single revenge buzzbait I have ran straight out of the package. Not saying they suck, but they didn't do that for me, and I bought something like 5 of them back then and they've all needed a lot of fiddling to get them to run straight.Delta is beast wrote:revenge buzzbaits. the only buzzbait i have ever seen that runs straight like a double buzzer right out of the box. get black widow and shad for the colors. persuader double buzz is also a pretty good double buzz. never had a problem with them and they run true out of the box as well. bobby ds are good but they kinda run to the right like many other buzzbaits do but they are pretty good and catch a ton of fish.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
Believe it or not I throw the $2.99 Strike King 3 blade buzzer. They are cheap yet catch huge fish one after another. I can run them as fast or slow as I want too. It is my " go to" bait during the dog days. Up til my 10.04 my largest fish was a 9.98 was caught on that bait in 102 degree at 11:25 am. And if I lose it i'm not out $6-9.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
all strike king products are crappy im sorry, yours probably runs alright but there are better ones out there, there soft plastics are ok but their hardbaits are low quality. the paint jobs are horrible and they break easily. i think it is because they are very massed produced. D&M makes a good one and so does revenge
Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
I dont know about the rest of you but I personaly like a buzz that runs to the side . When the bite is on here I'll have one that runs to the right and one to the left tied on two rods . Depending on where I'm at I want it parralel and tighter the better . Nicholes lures , they plate all their blades with either nickle or gold . They dont tarnish and really flash. Never had one break on a fish , just burn out the rivits and or blade .

I'll +1 that StrikeKing 3 blade buzzer, albeit I haven't fished one in years, but that bait held up, and caught lotsa fish for me...and yeah $3 at Wal-Mart!
Cavitron Buzzbaits are pretty good, run true out of the box, good wire design and a decent planing head, and of course, a long shank Gamakatsu.

Alex,
I like-a-da black Boo-Yeah. The war eagle ones are nice. With a single tail grub tail up. I like slow gear ratio 5 to 1. Slow yer roll pottnah, dat wae de buzzu baitu dontu go-u to tha side-u. you can also stick a nail weight in the bottom of the trailer too or wrap a lil bit of that pliable tungsten weight on the hook shank. After a few big fish any buzzbait is hard to get runnin rite. I'll get you some heavy wire buzzbaits from scott and mike at famous lures those don't bend out at. Your the jig mold master, start pouring yer own buzzbaits with heavy guage wire.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
I think I'm gonna check out some revenge, berserk, DeadEye, and I may even call the hook to order a few Bobby D baits to see how they hold up( thanx Cooch & DeltaBeast ) . I figure I'll run em all side by side and order more of whichever I like best....
I may be the custom jig maker, but wire baits are a whole different ballgame, plus I can barely find time as it is with the jigs right now, so taking on a whole new lure wouldn't be that easy...I wish! I wanna check out those famous lures buzzbaits your talking about though....That would be awesome.buddy brown wrote:Alex,

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
To get any buzz bait to run truer, bend the wire twice to get the lure down below the level of the buzzer, so it swims deeper and acts like a keel.
And, on double buzzers, bend the wires with the blades so the blades are flat to each other, and angled slightly out, which will make the action even greater, and help keep it up at slower speeds.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
squeeze the rivet a little, make flat surfaces... fish it, then leave it out. Put it on your antenna. drop a little battery acid in the rivet area, or something slightly corrosive. Put a buzz frog or swimbait on the back...

my favorites are Berserk and Rodstrainer. The Berserk baits run true right out of the package, and a must have is their clear lake special!
Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
Don't over think a buzzer, it bout the blade spray, not sqeaky sounds; lots of spray at all speeds, including slow.
Dead Eye seems to appeal to big bass, so I don't mess with it, just fish it. The 1/2 oz model works everywhere. A cut down ribbon tail worm is a good trailer.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
I use Boo-Yah most of the time. They normally run good out of the pack and will still be good after several fish. If they bend they normally are just as good after you straighten them out. They come in several models and colors.
You can take a file to the rivet or squeez them, or anything else you want to try to get the sound you want. I don't care if it sqeeks or not. I listen to the sound that the blades make as they come through the water at different speeds. I also look at how much bubbles the blades makes. I read an article where some pro prefered that his buzz baits run a little crooked because most animals that are swimming on top of the water doesn't swim in a strait line.

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
I have one favorite, its a TOC or Talon bait. Thing is awesome, I weighed it and it comes in at 15/16 of an ounce! Three blade plastic, with a Gammie.
Also there were some mismarked Persuader buzzers that weighed in at 7/8 not the 1/2 as labeled.
Either one will cast a mile, and right into the wind with a full skirt.
They plane off or pop up just fine.
Palomar, 20 LB Big Game, seven foot Crankin Stick BPS.

Just got a couple of these from Dale and all I can say is WOW! The picture does not do them justice, when you see one n person you can really see the hand made quality in the bait. The wire is nice and thick and looks like it can take a beating. I think outdoor pro shops have them right now or contact Dale, dmcustombaits (at) wavecable.com

Re: BUZZ BAITS...What kind?
Give Ray's Revenge baits a try they are the best iv found and for the delta get the 1\4 oz white\chart with clacker add a #2 trailer hook with a 2" white grub to the trailer hook tie it to 50lb power pro braid and hang on the smaller profile really works and with the trailer hook and grub it cast for days work the out side weedline on low tide and to the bank out to deep water on high tide.
I've caught a lot of nice bass and stripers on this set up on calm days use the same set up but without the clacker
