Fishing coaches needed in Chico! [Sticky Request]

Post by Steve Carson »

All,
If you are within range of Chico, please mark your calendar for May 30.
The annual "Hooked on Fishing, not on Drugs" kid's day is happening again from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Horseshoe Lake in Upper Bidwell Park.
This the largest single-day children's fishing event in the entire USA, over 4,000 [!] kids attended last year.
The massive convergence of kids simply overwhelms the ability of the Chico Bass Club and Chico Area Flyfishers to help all the kids at their chance at one of the 10,000 pounds of catfish being planted in the little 5-acre pond.
Seriously, if we had 100 extra bass anglers show up it would not be too many!
Wear your club/organizations hats/jackets and fly your colors proudly, these kids are the future of our sport.
We don't need your money, your boat or your expensive tackle; just you, a pair of pliers, and a smile for the kids.

Steve should we bring any rods and reels or is that taken care of? See you there.

No need to bring your own rods.
We have 600 loaner rod/reel combos.
For those in the immediate Chico/Oroville/Paradise area, that Thursday night [May 28] from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the clubhouse at Horseshoe Lake, we will have a "Rigging Party", where we rehabilitate and re-rig all of those loaners.
Early this week, I dropped off 54 of our reels that were DOA to Bud Dewberry who repairs the reels for North Valley tackle shops, and he will be fixing them for FREE [be sure to thank him!].
A fair number of reels will be needing new line this year, so I will head up a separate team to handle that chore.
The rest of the rigging volunteers just need to slip on one of the required "lead free" Enviro-Quest Steel Sinkers [donated by Danielson], tie on a #7 snap swivel [donated by Danielson] and snap in a #4 snelled hook [donated by Owner].
The Chico Bass Club will also supply pizza on rigging night, but please remember that NO ALCOHOL is allowed in Bidwell Park.

The Chico Bass Club is giving points for members who participate in the rigging [Thursday may 28] and the actual event [Saturday May 30], perhaps other clubs would want to do the same for this [or other] children's events.
