200 efi starting problem
200 efi starting problem
Just recently had problems starting main motor. When the key is turned to accessory, usually warning bell rings and motor starts. Yesterday turned key to accessory - no warning bells, motor turns over but does not fire. Acts like "dead man" switch is activated, but it is not. After trying to start for 10 minutes pulled boat out of water and went home. Two hours later walked by boat and turned key and warning bells came on, started right up. This has happened twice now. Any ideas?
Re: 200 efi starting problem
sounds like a broken wire that makes contact intermitintly. Mine would do the same thing when the motor was turned one way and then start when it was turned the other way. Check your wiring harness from the main batt to the motor. It may also be in the key switch. Best thing to do is take it to a service center you trust.

When there is no warning buzzer it usally means that the kill switch has been tripped. check it out and comfirm it is reset properly.

Try checking your battery terminals. Had the same type of problem. Cleaned and tightened them and no more problem. Bob

Bassnag- I had the same problem recently "sort-of".
I did have the Warning ring every time for me -- and it would fire over everytime when on land -- and 1/8 of the time when on the water for some reason. Took a trip to Inland Marine (925-757-1714) where Frank gave me a fuel pressure tester and a Harness key to water test on my own - that would help seperate the motor from the boat as being the gremlin...
Fuel pressure was #30 every time - then disconected the wiring harness and plugged in the bypass/ignition key. It started more frequetly -- but would cut out on plane or was missing bad if/when it started.
In the end it turned out to be a wire that shorted in the harness and a faulty/intermitent Stater Coil at the same time.
Also -- When my safety lanyard is tripped -- I DO get the warning beep every time my key is turned to ACC. (Just doubble checked for you).
See if you can get ahold of the bypass harness (asnd a feul pressure tester as well) -- that will save you alot of time in seeing if it is between the boat/motor ~ or just in the motor alone.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
