Are you going to define swimbaits? There are a wide variety of baits out there that are now classified as such. Really cant a darthead with grub trailer be a swimbait? That is all the AA Hammer is a large dart head on a large paddel tail grub trailer?

Wow you are definatly a customer freindly guy.... I was thinking back to the 1st Snag Proof where the definitions of frog fishing was stretched..... sounds to me like maybe DL down south was dead on.

So let me get this strait -

This is a swimbait only touranment with Poly Graphs - but you are leaving it up to the competors to define swimbait....and you disclude that a Big Hammer is a swimbait? So what if you the TD dont create distinctions, then how the hell will anybody fail the POLY or understand the rules?

You guys are killin me, that's a messed up time to have that tournament. You know I'd be there but putting this tournament the day after the Big Bass Classic down south sucks!!! IMHO

I'm nutz, but driving 400 miles after fishing the whole day in an event I plan on winning and arriving late that nite to freeze me *** off in my truck waiting for your tournament to start the next morning would kill me for sure so I'm gunna have to miss it.. wish I didn't have too..

Big Baits on Pedro in Jan.. killin me..

Yup I agree with CV thats bogus. You guys have known about this heavyweight bass gig at casitas for a month and you have it on the day after, Us nor cal guys want in but thats way out. Lets have it the next weekend. Its far enough out to change it right? Just hoping to swing both but kinda tight with a 6 hour drive between lakes next day

Hell, I'm down here 2 miles from casitas...I would love to come up there a give it a go...I just don't think I can swing it like most of the guys coming down here to fish the HBC...

I would be willing to make it that way if I had week in between tournaments, at least...

Never fished the lake but it would be cool to fish a huge lake and see all you northern cal guys fishing your home water...

Just my 2cents...

PEOPLE; PLEASE DO NOT PM ME OR EMAIL ME ASKING IF THIS OR THAT IS CONSIDERED A SWIMBAIT. THIS IS NOT MY TOURNAMENT, I AM ONLY GOING TO HELP WITH THE FOOD PART OF IT, (MAYBE FISH IT)??? EMAIL (RMANZOS@AOL.COM) FOR ANY QUESTIONS REGUARDING HIS TOURNAMENT.

I WOULD BE THE GUY SWIMING THE SPIDER JIG, HULA GRUB ANYWAY !!! AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, ANYTHING THAT SWIMS IS A SWIMBAIT, I PROBABLY USED THEM BACK IN THE 60'S 70'S WHEN MISTER TWISTER CAME OUT WITH THE SASSY SHAD, CAUGHT TONS OF FISH ON IT AND DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THE WORD SWIMBAIT BACK THEN. THINK ABOUT THAT !!

THANK YOU

People know what a swimbait is. A jig is not a swimbait, a spider grub is not a swimbait. Why are people always looking to stretch the rules? You all know what they mean when they say swimbait only. If you don't, I'd love to hear some baits that you think are questionable or that you feel should be called a "swimbait"

How about some of these?

Image

And these?

Image

Or maybe these?

Image

Or...

Image

In fact, the scope of "swimbaits" is far and wide... from little rubber minnow-style lures to massive conglomerations made from pool queues and such, and everything in between.

And if I'm throwing a LA Slider and dragging it ever so slowly across the bottom, does that constitute a swimbait or dragging rig?

This whole debate came up many months ago on the Southern board, and it became very clear that the criteria would have to be very clearly spelled out in order to be fair, equitable and successful. I think that's what some are trying to say here as well... I don't believe the 'threat' of a "random" polygraph test is sufficient to marshall the event... as Jonathan stated it would never hold up. I'd urge the first-year TD to think this through, seek counsel and guidance from some of the more experienced Directors, and plan as thoroughly as possible... then enjoy a successful event.

Good luck!
Roger

Right JOE!
You are kidding me people! There is always a "gray area" to some because they look for that gray area  . It should be cut and dry to you, it is to me. If you don't know what a swimbait is you should not fish it. The only gray area to me is the dishonest people who fish. Whats wrong you can't get any on a Hudd, 3:16 baits, BBZ,Triple trout, Ms slammer, Basstrix, Matt lures, the list goes on.... I guess not because e-mails are going out asking if this is a swimbait  UNREAL!!!

Tunaman, those are all swimbaits you just posted. Size shouldn't matter, but I'm willing to bet guys throwing the bigger stuff will stick the bigger fish. So if you want to throw a 3-4" storm bait you're probably putting yourself at a disadvantage anyway.

Actually Joe, the third ones down are Culprit "RipTide Paddle Tail Minnow" and are classified as crappie baits.

So, if I take a Huddleston Shad, or small Basstrix or Storm Wildeye Shad, and hook them on a dropshot rig I'd still be technically fishing a swimbait, right? Unfortunately that's the mentality that the TDs deal with... and is why the criteria needs to be spelled out as clearly and concisely as possible.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that it needs to be spelled out for people. I'm pretty sure everyone knows what a swimbait is though. How you fish it shouldn't matter though. Drop shot it, dead stick it, it shouldn't matter as long as it's a swimbait. I would consider all paddle tail baits swimbaits as they are meant to swim and resemble a fish. Good luck winning a swimbait tourney with a crappie bait though! :D

For the record..... On the Delta -- I would personally consider a Chatterbait with a Basstrix trailer a Swim Bait........

As for swimbaits...make it 6" or bigger...no make 71/2" or bigger...

That will slim down the options...

Hopefully the date will change and I can make it up there...

As for doing it in tournaments I’ll have to agree with Joe’s list, and for Pedro with Swimbaits only, Robert M as in Marxmiller would be at the top of mine too. Here’s to a nasty storm and big fish on 1/26/08
