Scams

Post by Jamie »

Beware of the VIN checker guys asking you to click on links & purchase reports to send to a surveyor to decide if the boat is good for them. The 2 numbers below both had the exact same communications asking good questions, wanting to come get the boat, but then need me to purchase the report for them. Both guys from "San Diego", but not San Diego phone numbers.

There is no such thing as a "VIN checker" or CARFAX report for Bass boats...it's a total scam! Don't fall for it! I had a guy with a Miami, FL phone number say he was now in Pasadena, CA and would come look at my boat right away soon as I clicked his link. I'm in NorCal near Folsom...that's a little far from Pasadena!

Thanks for posting this, there’s always some lowlife trying to take advantage of honest hard working people. This reminds me of a few years ago posted an as for a like new fully rigged Ranger for $32k. Obviously, it was a scam. One thing my beloved father told me that has never failed. He said “son if something seems too good to be true it usually is”.

When I was selling a boat they wanted the VIN # so they could run a check. I knew that was BS so I told them if they were interested to come by my house with cash.
There is no money to be made by getting a vin # but I guess if someone created a title with that vin # for a comparable boat then it would be worth something.

Have had 6 responses to a for sale ad on boat trader, all 6 had different websites they wanted a report from. “Will refund you when the boat is purchased” lmao, send money if you want a report…… all 6 inquiries went ice cold instantly after sending that response

Oh, boat still for sale btw 😜
