Lowarance Time Issue

Post by JeffJ »

Seems like a lot of people have lost there Time on their Lowarance units. What is going on? I lost it on all 3 of my HDS 9's. I have done factory restart and deleted from over lay and added back. Is Lowrance working on a fix?

I have two Hook 9TS and I too have lost my time. I've reset mine as well but just have three small boxes where the time would be. Glad to know that its not just me. I lost mine around Oct 27TH before the time change when i first noticed it.
Hopefully its fixable, Thanks Steve.

I have not had any issue with my HDS Carbons but in the past if any overlay data stopped reading just go to "Edit Overlay Data" and delete the item, in this case delete the Time. Then go back into Edit Overlay Data and reinstall it on each screen. If you need to change the time, go to the Settings menu, then to System and select Time. Here you can adjust the reading to the correct time.

Lost time on both my HDS 9 Gen 2 touch units a few weeks ago. Just shows three dashes. Seems like mostly Gen 2 users, many of them. It also affects my Tide Charts, they are way off now. On another site, it recommended contacting Lowrance Customer Service, the more people they are made aware of who have this issue the more likely they will do something about it. Right now, they seem to say it is a satellite issue of some sort and not something they control.

I have already done all that. It seems a lot of people are affected by this. Not just gen 2, on BBC there are a lot of guys with gen 3 and Carbons that have same issue. I got email from Lowrance and from what I was told the Gov't is doing some testing on the GPS system and that is what is causing this.

This forum is invaluable. I have a Touch 7 and 9 with the Point1 GPS upgrade. For me, the time issue started a couple of weeks ago. I have tried everything. I was going to come here and ask Ken for advice. Now I see that I am not alone. I have reset my time and edited my overlays and it has not helped. I will stand by to see if a fix is found.

The best information I have to this point on the lost time issue is that the United States Air Force is conducting some testing with the GPS satellites and this is somehow creating an issue with our units keeping correct time or any time at all. This will pass and everything will return to normal when this testing is done so keep your smart phones or the old fashion wrist watch handy for a while. This is not the end of the world as we know it. Focus on finding structure and fishing smart and you will be fine.

If we Marines had taken on this test, it would have been completed in 24 hours.....'Fly Boys' [pffffffd]!

 My attempt at 'vain' humor. BTW not all Lowrance units are affected, just units with certain GPS receivers. Had a 2014 Elite-7 in my shop and time worked perfect.......but, the date read 11/26/2055 ?

Sluggo has the answer. Go to the website he suggested (most of the posts in the beginning are incorrect so be sure to read all the way through). The short answer is that the Gen 2 units have a GPS chip in which the chip manufacturer failed to properly program it. The "good" news is that the problem should fix itself sometime after April. Hope this helps.

The time issue supposedly will fix itself sometime next year, but the date will never be correct which means the tide tables will be useless feature as well.

For those having issues there’s a patch posts on Lowrance site to fix this issue. Gen 1 and 2 (all I looked for so maybe more).

I recommend that you consider navigating to Lowrance.com > "Help & Support" > "Manuals & Software Updates" > Select your Product Series > select the Software you are interested in.

Here you go, but this is for Gen 2. There a separate download for Gen 2 touch and Gen 1 as well. I didn’t look for any others but there may be.
