Top summer patterns
Top summer patterns
Been kinda slow regarding any actual fishing discussions here lately. Guess I'll man-up and see if we can get one rolling.
Name your top 5 summer patterns. What has put big fish in the boat for you, or won you money at this time of the year?
Mine are:
Tora Tube. (duh) Personal best tournament bass boated in Sept. plus a bunch of other big fish and checks.
Jigging spoon. 1st double digit bass ever years ago. August and a weekend to boot! Back to back wins, and quick limits of quality fish make it a favorite of mine.
Carolina rigged lizard. Find the right spot and fish and go to town.
Spider jig. Can anyone say strokin a jig?
Topwater- Zara spook or a dog X. The most hot and cold pattern you can have but when it is there, its a gas!
Naturally I have a few others, But these are some of my favs for So Cal. Anyone else care to chime in and contribute???

Re: Top summer patterns
I don't know about 5 of them, but I can really, say that the spook bite this year has been hands down the best. Next, I would have to say flippin brushhogs.

Let me see, yup with those five tied on I am doin good, I would also substitute out the fluke for Frog depending on which body of water I am on.

Re: Top summer patterns
Vixen or Pointer 100
3/4oz Spider Grub
Deep Crankin' the GRass
Le Frog
PUnchin' or Flippin' a Beaver
My two most consistent techniques are DS and Split Shot, but only if I want fish. I'd rather work for a larger fish on reaction or with a big jig. Rippin' is really good for me also, but I usually only get to rip at Castaic or elsewhere during the summer, local lake gets covered with too much subermeged grass to really get a rip bite goin'.
