I do a lot of punching and I've tried nearly every punch hook on the market. IMHO, every single one of them has at least 1 flaw. I'd love to hear a recommendation for the PERFECT punch hook if I've missed something. Note that my must requirements are a heavy straight shank that can be snelled with a GOOD bait keeper.
Here is my list of falts (strengths omitted):
Owner jungle: weak bait keeper
Gami: how can a company this large fail to make a decent bait keeper? New and old both fail
Trokar: tears baits and fishes lips
VMC: dulls quickly
Mustad grip pin 3x: can't be snelled
I'm currently using the VMC because the bait keeper works ok (though not perfect) and I can either change the hook or sharpen to keep that sticky point. I LOVE the grip pin hook point and bait keeper BUT this hook cannot be snelled. Bobby Barrack loses a lot of respect with me as he promotes this hook. He even responded to my criticism here on Wester bass
the-sanshouo-rig-with-bobby-barrack-pun ... ok#p600556. Attached is a photo of a grip-pin and I speak from direct experience that this hack (lack of a true clean welded eye) has cost me fish! Sorry Bobby, stop the BS just because you are sponsored! Get Mustad to properly weld that eye and it's a winner!
So, any hook out there that I've missed that does not have these basic faults?

I've wrapped some braid around the gap to act as protection so that the main line won't wedge there.
It's a pain and do it frequently but helps.
Something like that may get you by until you find the hook you're looking for.
Good luck!

Try a Gammy with an Owner large size CPS spring for the keeper. I snip the standard keeper off mine

I love the Owner baitkeeper, their Jungle Flipping hook is the best on the market in my opinion. That keeper doesn’t break and keeps the bait right where it needs to be.

r2s ish flipping hook. I’ve tried all the hooks you’ve mentioned. Keeper is a bit low but I use the o-ring hack on the top of the bait and it works fine.

Wow, i remember making my own keepers and adding 20lb mono tags along the hook opening to prevent slippage.
I must not be punching or flipping correctly as I am not having the litany of issues with the hooks I use. I use the Extra Wide Gap Plus, VMC Punch hook and Gammie Punch hook. I have not lost fish because of my hooks.
Are you losing fish or just looking for the perfect to you hook?
