THE BEST CHATTERBAIT ?

Post by WANNA HOOK BIGGIN'S »

I like the Revenge Viberator and the Nichols chatterbox. I know there are many, Stanley, Strike King, Booyah, and the one i'm curious about is the Bobby D chatterbait. So who makes the best and what makes it better than the rest ?

Hand tied with Round rubber/Sliicone skirts, 5/0 hook, powder coated heads and blade that do not chip, any custom color you want. Oh yeah, a 37 pound limit in a major tournament, 35 and 32 pound limits in team tournaments. That bait in the last 2 years has put more $$ in my bank than any other. And if I could count that would be a lot higher!!!! (beat you to it KB!) :D

Call the Hook (925-625-2441) and order a few in your favorite color and give them a try. They will be your favorite too.

Hey Mike, How do you fish them? Steady retrieve or stop and go? What are some of your favorite trailers? It seems like you could be very creative with the trailers. Do you ever fish it like a jig?

I could write a book on these things! They are a very versatile bait. In the Fall and winter I will yo yo them in deep water like a spoon. In the spring summer I will throw them like a crankbait/spinnerbait. There isnt any right or wrong way to fish these type of baits. What ever the fish want on that day.

Good fishing, Mike

Test them!

Post by Larry Hemphill »

This past year I have been using the D&M Piranha swim jig, especially at night. Bob Higgins at Limit Out Tackle introduced them to me. I have tested the water movement of the blade against other brands - including the Chatterbait - and found the D&M gave the best vibration. Obviously, the Chatterbait and other brands are very good and will produce bass. But some are not real good - so do test them before you buy a bunch! They all look pretty good during the day, but in the dark of the moon - they better make noise at 40 feet!!

I have come to like the Phenix Vibrator Jigs, the ones Hite used to win back-to-back tournaments. Paired with a Swimsenko, it is hard to beat.

+1 on the Revenge Vibrator. Right color combos, well made with the best hardware and hooks. Nothing like having real pride in what you produce, and Ray at Revenge will only put his stamp on the very best baits. Revenge has a bunch of other really good baits...

+1 D&M phirana swim jig. Try the new brown/purple color, works great everywhere!!!! Other hot colors are sexy shad, sunfish and delta craw! Available in 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4oz.

Rvenge is my FAV... I like how there is .25 - .50 inch of wire that sticks out of the head where the blade is atached. I have never had a problem with the blade rolling over the hook and missing a fish. The detail is the best and a great hook. I like to use a brushhog or 10" power worm for a trailer!

I use two ONLY. Revenge's Vibrator and the other local hero Bobby D's.

I was interested in what brand Mike was throwing. He says so many good things about the "kind" he throws. Dang I wish I knew what brand he was catching 37 pounds on. His sponsor (who ever that is ) might fire him. :D :D Hey Mike..... this is for "Cranky" :D :D

I've been "makin' my own" getting the stuff from barlow's online. A big money saver (I order enough stuff to make 25 at a time) and it comes out to like 2 bucks a bait. Easy to do. Only negative is the paint chips off the heads, but it doesn't make a difference as the fish eat em just fine  . I don't stress about loosing em either so I can fish em in the gnarly stuff and on the bottom in nasty chunk rock and not sweat it. I don't link the split rings I just buy the jig heads that have the eye that closes with a pair of plyers.

I make my own to. I modified a poison tail jig mold to take the 60 degree hook. But mustad now make's a 28 degree that isnt a EWG for that mold.

What mold and hook do you get that closes around the head without a split ring?
