Yak-A-Bass (YAB) held their 4th regular season event on the California Delta out of Paradise Point Marina on Saturday, 5/22/21. 62 anglers came out and were met by some stubborn Delta bass. Out of the 62 anglers only 18 were able to secure a 5 fish limit.
The weather was reported to be mild with a cool morning and slight overcast mid-day with no wind. The water was clear in the area with anglers able to see bottom in 6 to 8 feet.
Damian Thao of Fresno, CA was able to figure them out and secure the winning limit at 89.25 inches that included two 20 inch tanks. “I was late to launch (second to last getting in). I stopped a little short of my first planned stop and saw some surface activity so I started throwing a frog. I got one to come up on it but wouldn’t commit. I moved down 15 yards and was popping it along the surface, no blow up, no noise, and when I went to reel it in I felt tension. A 20 incher had it choked. I continued throwing the frog for 30 to 45 minutes with no bites while I was waiting for the tide to bottom out. I then went looking for fish in isolated grass patches in the channel. I threw 6” Roboworms in Margarita Mutilator and Morning Dawn on the dropshot to fill the limit. I was working a little stretch back and forth and I would catch a fish on each pass. Once the tide started coming back in, I caught a second 20 incher on the dropshot. I had to cut my fishing time short and started heading back in so I could get to Clear Lake for tournaments the following day”, said Thao.
Big Fish of the tournament was a 22.25 incher submitted by Ryan Koch of Stockton, CA.
