Thanks to all for boat insurance help. Does it cover tackle?
Thanks to all for the Bass Boat insurance help. Does most Bass Boat Insurance cover tackle if lost out of the boat or stolen from the boat? Thanks in advance ><>

Generally your tackle is or should be covered by your homeowners insurance..most boat policies cover $1500 or less...
$1500 would only cover one locker in my boat..hehehe and not the rod locker...I had three of my partners rods stolen from my boat while we were watching a weigh in and my homeowners policy covered it..less the deductible...

This is why a lot of us pay a few dollars more and go with Sawyer & Cook. They do cover tackle and stainless steel props. Their insurance is set up to meet our needs and they are not just there when it is time to pay the premiums, they have the same support when you have to file a claim. I have had to file a few and they were handled great.
Trust us here, give Gayla a call.

I carry a $10,000 rider on my homeowners policy to cover "sporting equipment" which includes my fishing tackle. It's also a good idea to have an inventory of what you have. One good way to do it is lay ALL of your gear out on the garage floor or driveway. Then take a video camera and film it describing what the various pieces are. Include things like life jackets, rain gear and other safety equipment. $10k may seem like a lot, but years of collecting rods, reels and high dollar hardbaits and swimbaits it can add up pretty fast. Some fishing log programs have a tackle inventory component or you can do it on a spreadsheet. Be sure to update your inventory from time to time as well. This also helps you keep track of what you have so you don't end up buying things you already have. I can't say I have done all of these things, but I have done some of them. It paid off when my truck was broken into and I was able to document that indeed I did lose 100 crankbaits at an average price of $5 (it was a while ago!). And don't forget to add in your hooks and weights they represent a pretty hefty investment too.

One more thing, once you have your inventory and values compiled, it might be best if you don't leave it where your wife will find it!

I just renewed my Progressive policy a week or so ago-it costs me 36.00 a month for ins on the boat motor and trailer-it is all at replacement value (except for the outboard because it is over 5 years old) I also have 10,000.00 tackle coverage but that is included in the 36.00 a month. The 10,000 tackle coverage portion worked out to like $84.00 a year.

I have my boat insurance through Allied insurance. I also have all my vehicles and homeowners through them. I just recently insured my boat. 100/300 liability, Boat valued at 17,000 with a 500 ded. $5000 in fishing gear (rods, reels, electronics) 250 ded. premium is $367 a year.

And by the way "JT" be careful turning those things into your homeowners. My agent is my cousin and she was telling me how whenever you turn something into your homeowners they charge you a surcharge (raise your premiums). She said a boat strangely enough is one thing they do not do this on when you turn in a claim. Just my $.02
