Tatula dissappointment
Tatula dissappointment
I stand by Dawai products and always will, they for the most part they make a quality product. I have 6 tatulas and just purchased my 7th and it happened again. I went out and when I used it, it once again made a real bad ticking noise when casting it. This is the second time it's happened and I really don't have time to take it back and go thru all the headache again. Has anyone out there experienced the same thing and if so what did you do to stop that terrible ticking noise? I hate to put that out there but their not cheap reels and I would expect them to be perfect right out of the box.
Re: Tatula dissappointment
I had the same thing happen to a tatula type r. Called daiwa and they said to send it in, they covered all the parts and labor costs. I believe fisherman's warehouse in sac is an authorized daiwa service center so maybe they can help but I sent mine to the daiwa warranty and repair center in Southern California. They'll cover anything that goes wrong with the reel within the first year from the purchase date. It did take several weeks but I have my reel now good as new. Hope this helps.
Re: Tatula dissappointment
Must be a hit and miss thing. I have two Tatulas and they both worked perfectly out of the box. You can contact Daiwa through their website. They stand behind their products.

I own a couple and have had no issue. I have buddy that has quite a few type R's and has had no Issues. I can tell you do not run braid on any reel with the TWS system the braid will in time grove it out. Other than that it's a good reel.
Re: Tatula dissappointment
Thank you all, I will always stay loyal to daiwai and absolutely love the Tatula reel, I just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem and how'd they fix it. I have plenty so I will just send it back and keep fishing. Hope everyone's having a good season and hope we see some big bags at the rat l trap open.
Re: Tatula dissappointment
Try tightening the spool magnet knob next to the cranking handle
Just enough until you can't make the spool move left or right with your thumb.

Re: Tatula dissappointment
The Tatula spool tension knob isn't a micro detent type adjustment like the Zillion knob....and should be!
Not familiar with a clicking issue, something else must be wrong. The Tatula isn't made in Japan, so quality issues are a possibility, I would have Daiwa replace the reel, not repair it!
The TW wing grooving was isolated to early poor heat treatment and titianium oxide treatment, if that happens, return the reel. Daiwa has a lot vested in the TWS so now is the time to make it right.

Re: Tatula dissappointment
I saw your post and want to let you know what I think your problem is? Especially since I did not see a correct answer to what I think you problem is. I believe when you say that you are hearing a clicking noise on your Tatula's right out of the box is the question. When you get any of our baitcasting reels and it does not have to be a Tatula right out of the box. The CAST CONTROL knob on the right side or left side depending on if you have a left or right hand model needs to be adjusted. We do not adjust this at the factory. Because this should actually be adjusted to your own personal casting style and based on the weight of the lure you are throwing. Technically for each lure you change this should be checked. The lure should fall with some to little resistance. This again based on your personal casting style depending if you thumb the spool or do not thumb the spool and rely on the Magforce sytem to control your cast. This is why some times you do not have a problem and some times you seem to hear the clicking noise. It is because some of the reels the casting control was adjust by chance right out of the box. The way to tell if your casting control is too lose is if you take your spool and you can move the spool from side to side left to right whih a lot of play. Your casting control is too lose and that is why you will hear clicking noise the spool is probably moving side to side on the cast. You need to tighten this up so the spool does not have play from left to right and still spins freely. After you adjust that than you play with your Magforce adjustment. If you have the cast control knob too lose your Magforce may not even be able to slow your spool down enough. So if you notice that you are still getting backlashes and your Magforce is on the highest setting your cast control is definitely too lose.
Now if you still are having a problem or hearing noise than yes, please return to a authorized Daiwa warranty or send back to us and we will fix it free of charge for reels under a year old.

Daiwa, the spool tension knob and cast control knob are one in the same. My question was, why not have a micro detent adjustment knob like the Zillion so it stays adjusted where we want it?
I own 3 Tatlua R's and haven't experienced any problemm the past 18 months.
Thank you for the reply.

Re: Tatula dissappointment
On the R it's the red knob aligned with the spool on the crank handle side under the star drag, it's a black knob on the standard Tatula. The knob is free turning, doesn't click or detent, sometimes moves under vibration from trailering or running the boat. I check this spool tension when getting a rod out to fish, don't always remember however!mark poulson wrote:Tom, do you mean a knob with a clicker?Oldschool wrote:Daiwa, the spool tension knob and cast control knob are one in the same. I use the R 8:1 high speed for jig fishing, easier to get reel style hook sets and controlling bass when casting over 90'. Good reels.
