Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
I have been useing Stren Floro for a number of years, however the memory is really a killer and knot strength is lacking, in my opinion.
I have been looking at trying Sunline, however there are three choices listed, which one where!!
I use 8-10lb on my spinning reels, both alone and as a leader, tied to Power Pro.. I need advice from someone who has used Sunline in both applications..
I use 10-20lb on my baitcasters, alone and with PowerPro, for various uses. Any advice would be much appreciated...
Thanx

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
JT,
I have been using Sunline "Sniper" for a while now for almost all of my light line stuff. It comes in 2 colors, clear and a multi cammo type which is the Sniper "BMS", that I used for really clear water. It is hard to find and I have to order it from a guy in Japan. I have started using the improved sinch/ San Diego knot with these floros and it seems to be a much stronger knot than the polymer.
This stuff is pretty costly but it I have had no problems with it at all.
RW
If your gonna look at the Sunline stuff you should take a look at the machine gun cast line. I use it for crankin it seems to be pretty good. small diameter and cast great, very strong.

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
JT,
Of the Sunline Products, I've used the Sniper and Shooter FC's. I prefer the Shooter. Had some inexplicable fraying problems with my Sniper so i don't use it anymore but I know a lot of guys swear by it.
However, I'm not sure I'd use either of the lines I've tried on spinning gear. Fluoro, in general, is a bit too memory intensive for me on spinning gear.
hope that helps.

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
Well first off since I am a Sunline pro staffer I thought I would chime in. I do use Sniper some but mostly I use Shooter from the small stuff to the heavy lines. I also use the San Diego knot for many things but also I use other knots. The Machine Cast is great line but I would tell you to try the Defier for Cranking as It is a small diameter co pulymer Nylon. It is awesome and is very limp stuff. Machine cast is very good also but try the Defier and I know you will like it.
Shooter is great stuff for all your needs. It is higher priced but lasts a long time.
The line Mr. Watts is talking about is a shooter product I believe. We sold it last year at the Anglers Marine Bassathon. It is multy colored and comes in 3 styles. Light line is 1 set of colors med. pound test comes in another series of colors and the heavy comes in a 3rd. set of colors.

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
What are the observable differences between the Shooter and Sniper variants?
I know Sunline products are in a higher price tier but how do Sniper and Shooter compare to P-Line's fluorocarbon (in diameter, limpness, stretch, etc)?

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
Shooter is awesome.... Sniper I actually don't like... Sorry Sunline... But Shooter is the finest Flourocarbon I have tried. I am interested in trying the FC from Izorline to see how it compares... I hear good stuff about it.
Back to the Sunline... I am sure you will be very happy with Sunline Shooter Flourocarbon! The defier is great for applications where some stretch is ok or wanted in your line i.e. Cranking, Spinner baits, Rattle Traps etc.. Top Water and swimbaits too.

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
What was it about Sniper that you didn't like and what characteristics do you like about Shooter? For example, TTCal mentioned fraying problems with Sniper in a previous post. What are the differences between the two?TomLeogrande wrote:Shooter is awesome.... Sniper I actually don't like... Sorry Sunline... But Shooter is the finest Flourocarbon I have tried.
Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
Shooter is very strong and more abrasive resistant (in my experience with it). The FC sniper seemed to break quite a bit easier and seemed to get nicked up pretty quickly. I was retying quite a bit more than I do currently with the shooter. Just my experience!

That's good information--thanks for sharing your experience with the two lines, Tom!TomLeogrande wrote:Shooter is very strong and more abrasive resistant (in my experience with it). I got a recommendation fer ya JT!
Git yer hands on some of Kevin VanDam's Line & Reel conditioner. I have noticed a big difference the last few weeks with the various Fluoros I'm using and am now experiencing less memory with my lines.
I don't believe you are gonna find any mono, co-poly or fluoro line that is immune to some amount of memory. Some lines more than others. Amazingly, this stuff works as advertised! Is Line & Reel a cure all for line memory? No, but it sure makes a huge difference!

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
RayL,
Thanks for the info on shooter and the Defier, I will give those a try.
The Colored line is Sniper BMS and is a multi color camo line with clear, orange and pink every couple of feet or so. I got my first batch from Seji Kato at the Mead US open this last year and it worked pretty well. I have since been able to order it from one of hour finest stationed in Japan, since it is not readily available in states without the addage of huge shipping cost.
Thanks again for the info on the other to lines.

Re: Sunline Fluorocarbon "Which one"
I do know that there is a store that will be announcing that they will be selling the colored Shooter from Japan. The light line comes in 3 shades of Grey. I don't remember what the other 2 come in. I will have to look because I have some in my line box. That guy in Japan is quite the busy fellow over there, besides serving our country. I still owe him a great big thanks for some baits I received from him earlier in the year.

If it's of any help, Brooklyn Bill's Tackle Shop carries the Sniper BMS.R watts wrote:The Colored line is Sniper BMS and is a multi color camo line with clear, orange and pink every couple of feet or so. I'd be interested in checking out the multi-colored Shooter when it becomes available...
