Split rings
Split rings
Hey all, I've grown increasingly irritated with my knots setting right where the split rings become one piece. That "what if" syndrome has penetrated my inner hull! I'm moving to oval split rings, but I wanted to know how they're sized and what size is preferred for 1/2 oz crankbaits? My eyes aren't what they used to be so I don't want the tiniest thing out.
Re: Split rings
I've been using oval split rings for years and love them. I bought my oval split rings from Barlow's so the sizes are based on their sizing. For my 3/8 and 1/2 oz lures, I use a oval split that is 1/4 inch long (size 4). For lures like my Whopper Plopper 130's, I use a 5/16 inch long (size 5) oval split ring. I bought some oval split ring that are 7/16 inch long (size 6), but only used them on my big swimbaits. Hope that helps.
Re: Split rings
The point you're talking about is actually the best place to tie the knot. A knot will cinch down much better there than over both pieces of the ring side by side. But hey, whatever....
