Sleeping on the boat
My first post! I'm from so cal, and I like to make trips up north to fish big water. Obviously the cost of motels and even camping can get out of hand. I was recently thinking that I might be able to just get a slip with elec, a pop up tent for the deck, and a sleeping bag. I think it would be cheaper than camping. Do any of you do that at the delta, clear lake, shasta, or oroville? Thanks guys

I Am a short fella, so all I do is fold the back seats down in the crew cab. Unfold the sleeping bag and call it the night.

Re: Sleeping on the boat
I thought of getting a little generator and doing as you suggest, but knowing where to park without attracting cops, tweakers, and other undesirables kinda requires local knowledge. Holland marina has been mentioned in other posts, but I was just there and was told that sleeping in the lot is no longer allowed. A few PM's with friendly parking lots, neighborhoods, or stretches of road would be really appreciated.
Re: Sleeping on the boat
as a fellow sleeping bag camper type of guy, my experience is DONT SLEEP ON THE GROUND at RUSSOS in the grass - BEEP BEEP - I have slept on the front deck of the boat - never thought of a tent, but misquito / bug covering would have been nice - what about in the back of your tow vehicle? I have done that as well - Most comfy is now in the back of My Toyota Sequoia
- Either way Russos or Sugar Barge both have nice facilities on the Bethel Island side - BW on the Hwy 4 is also good.

If you want to camp and launch for cheap, why not Brannan Island State Park?
Biggest ramp in the Delta, place to pitch a tent, bathrooms, etc.

I was wondering where the tackle shop was. That's a great offer. I may just take you up on it. Either way you just got a new customer.

Re: Sleeping on the boat
Check out Don Pedro. Big lake up out of Modesto.
You can set up camp on shore just about anywhere
I haven't done it in a few years.
But we would just pay for the boat and vehicle for a few days and hang out on the lake shore.

I used to sleep on the boat quite a bit. I used to sleep in a bag/bivy sack. These days I don't do it much but even so I carry the bivy sack at all times in case a night trip doesn't go according to plan.

Hey Andy he could try to camp at Bran island but would be very very very difficult. Bran island was one of the parks closed by the state. Spending cutbacks.

I think I read that it was taken over by another organization and remains open.flipstar wrote:Hey Andy he could try to camp at Bran island but would be very very very difficult. Bran island was one of the parks closed by the state. Spending cutbacks.

Found this info;
"Brannan Island will be managed by American Land and Leisure starting August 1, 2012. Until then the park will maintain its current service reduction status, but will be available for camping reservations through Reserve America during the month of July. Please visit Reserve America’s website http://www.reserveamerica.com, or California State Park’s website at http://www.parks.ca.gov; for reservation information."

Re: Sleeping on the boat
Lake Sonoma has several boat-in only (no over land access) campsites around the lake. Not sure what the rates are. The only drawback is having to leave your tow rig parked overnight in an unattended parking lot.
There is also a regular campground, Liberty Glen (Corps of Engineers) at the lake, about a mile from the public launch.
