Silverwood lake!

Post by ojesus10 »

First, I wanted to thank everyone who helped with my spawing bass question.

Secondly, I got another one for some of you. Im heading to Silverwood Lake this weekend on a camping/fishing trip for the first time and was wondering if any of you had some good patterns or advice on the lake for largemouth and some stripers.
I picked up some tips on using some topwater stuff for stripers/largemouths, such as super flukes and a zara spook jr. as well as some crayfish patterns with zippers and tubes but any other inside info will help.

well, im the foolishone with foolish advice. silver is my home turf. folks around here call me VO. it has nothing to do with fishing at silverwood. anyway , if your going for stripers ( I once went for some of them when i was in the pen), i would soke some anc hovies at the bouy line over by the dam. if your going for bass, i would suggest robo worms (oxblood light w/red flake) at all points in the narrow leading from the bottom to the top( the narrow). remember, this saturday is a aba tourny at the silver. might get busy. anyway, have a good time, bring a hand warmer(its snowing tonite at wrightwood) and remember, if your cold and the fishing sucks, youshoulda been at perris, not France. later gator.

hi here is my 2 cents, I also live close to the wood, and if you camping there this weekend I hope its not in a tent, and if so I hope your taking your wife to stay warm with :)

As for the aba trny, the trun out has not been that great as of late, I would think you looking at maybe 15 boats in it 20 at the mosted so thats not going to kill you, I take it your going to have a boat?

As for the stripers I would also say bait is your best bet unless you have a way to get down to about 50ft or so, if you do then troll big plugs on all the main lake points and up into miller's, if you use bait I would go up into miller and you will find a bouy line at the south end that says No Boats there are 4 bouys on this line, get in the middle on the 2-3 and thats is were the channel runs though, fish that area and you should get into some there. As for a top water Bite well lets just say NOT at the Wood right now water temp is low to mid 50's and they just pulled about 3-4 ft out of the lake, every thing is deep.

As for LMB, and this is just me but there deep and eating craws, so I would start out ( if your looking at the lake from the ramp to the right is miller just so you know) on the 1st main lake point on the right / west side that point runs out along ways just so you know, I would fish that point both ways.
go around it to the east and fish that whole bank to the next main lake point that will be the opening to Outhouse cove and fish into outhouse cove about 35 yards you will see a little beach area, I would not go past that.

Now form that same 1st main lake point going into miller fish that go back into miller so you will be on the east side of miller were all the rock is, I would fish that bank all the way back into miller to the bouy line I was talking about for the stripers. If you just work on those areas and fish it slow that will take up your 2 days for sure. Oh and on the east shore going up into MIller about half way up you will see a point that has some good rock on it ( you cann't miss it ) the channel runs right by it so fish that HARD for both Striper and LMB, on the south side of that point you should have about 40 ft of water and on the north side of it is a flat so it has all you need there also.

Now for Baits and setups, 3 setups should do you fine
C/Rig 16 inch long or so
D/S with a 4-8 inch Tag
T/X with a 3/16 bullit weight if it gets windy you will have to go to a 1/4 oz.

Baits as the foolishone said oxblood will work on the D/S, also use Warmouth and Xmas Purple Weenie, 4 inch on the D/S. But if your not fishing Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin/Black Flk, Watermalon Black/Flk on your t/x and c/rig your going to be miss the boat.

I hope this Helps and if you see a guy with long hair and big out there in a 202zx white and blue Skeeter that is only using his trolling motor you can say Hi. my big motor has a oil problem and cann't get it in the shop till the 19th. but I'm starting to go crazy I fish the wood 2-4 times a week and I have not seen the water in 2 weeks

Anyways good Luck
