Sightfishing Sunglasses?? What are the best??
Sightfishing Sunglasses?? What are the best??
Just wanted a little input about sightfishing sunglasses, lost my old pair this last weekend and need to replace them..Was useing Costa's in amber color...
Definitely a matter of opinion...
...I've gone full circle. I started with Costa Del Mar, went to Hobie, then Solar Bats, then Kaenons, and I'm now back with Costa Del Mar and couldn't be happier. I REALLY like the Harpoons with the mirror green lenses. The are great for sight fishing and all around use.

Re: Sightfishing Sunglasses?? What are the best??
I'm getting a pair of Wiley X soon. I tried them out and they are crystal clear.
Just a slight deterant...
I started fishing with Costa Del Mar's unfortunatly within a year I needed prescription sunglasses. I would continue to wear my Costa's for the next 4 years, until finaly I couldnt see distances behind them.
This Fall I was at the Anglers Marine Bass A Thon and tried on the Cocoon's over Rx polerized glasses. I can not believe how great the polerization is on these glasses. I would put them next to anyone's Costas, or Kaneons any day of the week. I have yellow, and Light Green (vermillian) both have been excellent.
If you wear eyeglasses and can not wear contacts these are great! They come in three sizes and are very light weight.
I know now back to the Wiley-X's and Costa's (but really if you cant afford script sunglasses stop by the hook and check em out)

The Best will fit you
You can never take someone else’s word on a pair of glasses. Each of us have faces that are a little different. While a pair may fit me perfect they may not fit you at all. You have to take some time and try of pairs from manufacturers who make quality polarized lenses.
The must be comfortable as you will be wearing them for 8-12 hours. They need to fit close enough to your face not to allow light to get in behind the lens. Be sure to try them on while wearing a hat or visor as that is probably how you will fish. Make sure the
frames fit first of all!
A durable high quality lens is also important. For cloudy days I prefer an amber or brown lens. When it is sunny I prefer a green colored lens. I am lucky to be sponsored and get to try a lot of different glasses. Having a pair of brown lenses and a pair with smoke/green lenses did give me an advantage in the recent EverStart. I have talked to two other anglers who went through the cove where I found my big fish and neither saw the big fish on the deep beds. I also witnessed co-anglers for 4 days that were not able to see the beds near as well as I could. Quality glasses when sight fishing are critical equipment.
As mentioned above Wiley-X may be new to the fishing scene, but they are building some great glasses. The fit (For me) is perfect for sight fishing. Tight to the face and comfortable. The lenses are ballistic polycarbonate designed for military eye protection, yip they are tough. Lastly the optical clarity, polarization, and light transmission as are good or better than anything on the market. The Seal-Tek series also has a gasket that seals them to your face allowing no light behind the lens, sealing out debris, and best of all no gnats. Give a pair a try and I believe you too will find they are incredible.
The Wiley-X models I prefer are the JP-2P, JP-3P, and the Romer II.

There is also a dealer locator on their site to find a dealer near you. They have been in a law enforcement and motorcycle markets for years so they are in most places that carry stuff for them.

Best sight fishing glasses
I have only tryed a few brands such as polar bats some cheep ones that i dont know the name of and oakleys. By far of the glasses i have tryed Oakleys are the best. A bit pricey tho. It will set you back a cool 200$ or more. I got the half jakets with the fire polarized lenses . The frames were 115$ i think and the lanses were 85$. Man these are awsome i love them plus they look kool to. good all around glasses. Just my .02
