Re: Re-carpeting Trailer Bunks
Trail Rite Trailers one time told me to use Douglas fir, straight with no knots, and don't cover the bottom so it can dry out. They claimed that this wood would take the shape of the boat over time.

Re: Line spooling ???
This is what I do. Most reels retrieve 24" to 30" or 2.0 to 2.5 feet per handle crank, and I try to put 150 ft. or 50 yds. per fill. Just count the spool revolutions to 60 or 75. 150 ft. is considerably more than you'll cast, and when you lose line down to the knot, it's time for more line.

Regarding the slot limit----it's probably true that the slot limit is a big part of the population increase of spots in these lakes. It forced fishermen to release fish at the time they reached spawning size. I think there were posts on this site discussing this very subject. I had a discussion with...

So, what else is new? In these canyon lakes that fluctuate a lot yearly spotted bass over populate the lake in 15 to 20 years because they can and do spawn in deeper water that smallies and largemouths can't. Spots have a successful spawn every year, and the other two don't because of fluctuating wa...

I agree with Toddmac above. Clear Lake is known to have fish die-offs in warm weather. Who's to say that that this doesn't help control population densities and make it the great fishery that it is. Look at what the population density of spots have done to the foothill lakes, and I would bet that Bu...

Re: Casitas
I'm not at all familiar with the situation at Casitas, but I do know that the size drop off at the lake might not be due to lack of trout planting. Comment above about drag being biggest problem with line twist is dead on. I would also add that you don't have to reel against the drag to cause twist. Just the fact that the line is going off against the drag is causing one line twist for every rotation of the spool.

Up switch will stop when trimming while running, so lower unit stays in water and picks up water to cool engine. If yours is not set right to do this you may lift motor too high and damage your motor. Trailer switch bypasses this cut-off so you can load on trailer.
