Shimano Curado K

I need to buy a new reel in the next couple of weeks. I currently have a Curado 200HG that I like a lot for stripers and slightly heavier lures for black bass. Is there any reason to change to another Shimano product in that $175 price point? I was thinking I would get a deal this weekend but it loo...

Re: Correct Trolling Motor recommendation 19ft 1996 Starcraft fishmaster

Grncrestliner I looked at the Tracker Targas which are similar in size and they use a 60in shaft. My boat may not be as deep as yours and I know it is not as deep as some of the Trackers. Mine is a Fish Hawk. My brother uses a 60 inch shaft on his deep V aluminum and that may be what you need. Like...

Re: Correct Trolling Motor recommendation 19ft 1996 Starcraft fishmaster

Your boat is similar to my Crestliner. My current motor is 70 pound thrust and a 45 inch shaft. I will be replacing it with an 80 pound thrust with a longer shaft. The motor works OK on calm days on a lake but if the wind is bad or if there is a lot of current it struggles. So in my opinion a 24 vol...

Re: Why do people get so mad about sharing "secret fishing spots"?

If you fish (or hunt) a spot that it took some effort to find then tell a "friend" about it only to never ever have success at that location again because it is too crowded you would understand.

Re: Fisher marine livewell

No idea how yours is plumbed but on my Crestliner if I do not use the livewell for a long period of time or if I turn it on with the intake above the water line (on plane or on the trailer) the pump will run but not pump water the next time I turn it on (on the water). Sometimes the pump will go ahe...

Re: Stories of fishing with your kids

2 things that I remember that were great. When he was 4 years old going to a small lake and catching large bluegills. He loved it. When he was about 8 years old we water skied a lot and had for years. He would try to ski or ride an innertube and then ask to go bass fishing instead. He would always r...

Re: Roboworm T-Rig?

I use the fat Roboworms for Texas or Carolina rigs in 6". Not the only thing I use but I probably use Roboworms more than any other brand. I have a ton of colors like most guys but if I was going to limit my selection here are my favorites. Warmouth, Prism Shad, MM III and Morning Dawn. I use l...

Re: Nacimento

I have not fished Nacimiento in about 10 years but back when I did for me it was a better numbers lake than Oroville is in the winter. Winter on Naci can be great. Almost any soft plastic will work. 6" Roboworm would be my first choice. As far as the boat inspections go I have been told they ar...

Re: Ultrex question

I talked to Minn Kota at the ISE show but still have questions. If I do not intend to purchase Humminbird products is the built in transducer even worth getting? I have been told the Lowrance units don't perform well on Minn Kota's built in transducers. I do not intend to purchase one with a link bu...

Re: Riding around the lake with fish in the livewell

How is it different for the fish? I think we all know that a tournament angler has no choice if they are going to compete. A certain amount of mortality is going to happen. If you are only fun fishing then you are potentially killing fish for nothing more than your bragging rights. The fish don't kn...

Re: Riding around the lake with fish in the livewell

In my opinion (and a lot of guys don't care) keeping fish in a live well all day is wrong unless you are in a permitted tournament. Remember when lake X was the go to destination for large spots? I used to fish it a couple of days a week. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen floaters around ...

Re: Looking for an all around fishing line.

Thank you! So I just match my braid and flouro/mono pound test equivalents? If fishing 50# braid, my leader would be 12# flouro/mono on a bait caster. Not necessarily. This is what I use for a plethora of applications. 10# braid to 6# floro 20# braid to 8-10# floro 30# braid to 12-16# floro 40-50# ...

Re: Trout plant schedule

I have been reading on some other forums that the state is going to reduce or eliminate stocking waters that they have decided are basically warm water lakes. McClure is on the list of lakes that they may not stock in the future. I understand there are a number of other warm water lakes that will no...

Ultrex question

Has anyone who purchased a new Ultrex been disappointed or thought it turned out to be a waste of money? As I get older my knees are giving me more problems and on some days fighting to hold position is becoming a pain. I was thinking a cable steer with spot lock might be the ticket for me. But at a...

Re: Which Three Casting Rods?

Your first rod is a Sierra 733. I use that same rod a lot but it is a little light for some applications. Since your post states casting rod if I were you I would look at the same rod in a 5 or 6 weight for larger baits. I prefer my 5 weights over my 6 weight rods most of the time. I use my 6 weight...

Re: Need a fishing partner

How far are you willing to travel? How do you typically fish? Soft plastics, swim baits, crankbaits etc? I take new guys out frequently but I think I am too far for you to drive. I have never taken anyone in my boat without a couple of phone conversations first. You might just post a little more abo...

When are you going? For me it fishes tough after a heavy rain. If the water is not terribly stained I do OK on Hula Grubs and drop shot early in the year. I know others do well on Spinnerbaits.

Oroville

I posted a quick report on Oroville today but thought I would post something here also. The lake is of course down around 90' from full because of the work on the spillway. Re: 6' Spinning Rod

I have an older 6' spinning rod that I use for swimming Yamamoto grubs and small Keitechs. It works fine for that but I am not real fond of it for slack line applications. I have some shoulder issues and when the shoulder bothers me I pick up the 6' rod because it weighs almost nothing and use it fo...
