I was told years ago by a really good trout guy the best was for a biginner was to use the lightest line you can with the lightest weight, power bait on a small hook. throw it out, let it fall to the bottom. Reel it in & do it again.

Thanks jigs. Been tying my own jigs for pushing 50 years, total hack. Was just wondering if you had a magic way to cut the strips getting started but I guess scissors are it. Again, beautiful stuff

We used to have a bounty on them at my little lake till we got hooked up with the state, not allowed. Maybe thats what happened at clear lake. Personally still don't think we have a problem

Been probably 15 years since I bought the ones I like, appears they're no longer out there. dale hollow ones are very close but have a wire weed guard I dont like. Probably the few I have will last, won' really smallmouth fish that long. Thanks for the help. sorry to be picky but a privlage of old age

Thanks Tom, the dale hollow jigs are not what I'm looking for, Wish I still had some U2 split tail eels, still have some really ugly bucktail jigs I tied years ago

Had a guy fall in after a long day smallmouth fishing up here, 43* water. Got him in ok but he refused to change into the extra clothes I keep in the boat. His cabin was maybe 5 minutes away, almost didn't make it. Scary, put a ladder on the boat a couple of days later

For me, up in the socal mountains, the colder months with low 40s water temp is way better. Pretty much throw an 8" hudd 12 or a bluegill bait Can get them in the warmer months but not the same. When I'm not throwing a big bait mostly old school flipping a jig, again best in colder water

I fi sh a lake thats wall to wall docks & skip frogs alot. Have used a handfull of rods but never found one I was really comfortable with, Like something not much over 7', doesn't . need to be real heavy

Also met him at BAT, gave me some advice on catching suspended smallmouth on my little lake. Heck of a nice guy, wouldn't be shock me to see him fish the BASS legends

I'm on a little mountain lake often howls in the winter, tying up to some of the long multiples & dropping a spoon in the slips, deep to shallow has caught a bunch of fish for me. I find fishing one alot of fun, don't know why more people don't do it

A couple of guys did it pretty well on my little lake that gets lots of wind & horrible boat trafic. Trick was a tm front & back
