Has anyone here been to San Carlos Lake in Arizona? Looking for any information anyone might have to offer regarding fishiing/camping there.

I have been and fishing is still great. I just talked to a friend in Az. and he was telling me about the lake. First I will tell you that you need an Indian license to go and fish the lake. You can get it at Tempe Marine. I would advise you not to go there because of the news I have been told. The hotel and Casino also are having this major problem. There are groups of teens going all over the reservation and stealing tires tackle props and what ever else they can grab. If you are camping they are doing it at gunpoint. I have known about some of this since I was at Havasu for the Pro Am.I really got all the info though last weekend.I would say not to go and change and go to Bartlett or Roosevelt instead. If you notice you will see there are NO tournaments at San Carlos this year eventhough the lake has plenty of water. If you insist on going fishing is awesome there as the lake is very fertile and has had some water for a couple of years now.

I'm from AZ. San Carlos used to be the best fishery in AZ. A few years back I beleive the lake emptied out because of a severe drought. I have not personally been there due to stories I have heard. Don't know if they are true or not, but there are other good lakes to go to. I'd go to Roosevelt at this point. The fishing there is on the rebound and it is a really nice lake. They have some good facilities for camping. At one point several years back it was called the best crappie fishery in the world. I am thinking a Mattlures crappie might be a great bait there right now.

I have fished both lakes San Carlos and Roosevelt. San Carlos was good even in low water conditions. I remember catching back to back 5's in a tournament there and the only area to fish was near the dam. Roosevelt should be on fire right now and if you are only going for fun you can have a field day on slot fish.
